I have a 56 Bug, want to do a rest-custom job on it, what is the best engine & tranny setup to put in it, i don't want bone stock or a 10 second 1/4 miler. Help

i prefer a 2 liter using 90.5's. its up to you was size you want. just make sure to buy quility parts. i know allot of people like 94's but 90.5's is my preferance. as far as a tranny, if you go bigger that a 1600cc i would have a build box made. the stock trans., even a new rebuild will break quick. well at least i seem to break them quick. i have a mellow 1914cc (i know they are 94's but i bought the motor from a friend)in my oval with a brand new rebuilt trans. from rancho or carters, cant remember where i got it. it was laying around. i bought for a project then never used it. i put it in the oval and i broke it in under 200 miles. i just bought a build trans. from KCR and it seems to withhold the abuse i put to my car. remember a stock trans. is not ment to be ran at to high of rpm's. i think there is a couple of ways to put a reg. or non-split case trans. in a early. i use a bus nose cone and it seems to work fine. good luck!
