Agreed..uncanny similarity (...even same engine conversion...???!!!??? )
...although a number of small differences picked up from DZ's gallery:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_search.php?search_author=DAIZEE

- different wheels (easily changed, but why go back to 14" steelies...???)
- no sign of an awning rail on the fiberglass top (see DZ's picture):

- different front seats, bench fabric, curtains & cabinet hardware (all could have been changed)
- missing speakers in rear overhead cabinet:

It's this last one especially that makes me think this is prob'ly not the same van...???
Still, a blast from the past & fun for some Sunday morning sleuthing... 8)

Close but no cigar! That van doesn't have an engine swap - and Daizee's van wasn't an automatic.

A chilling crash nonetheless.

Yeah, and that Biohazard sticker doesn't make it any better!

Texting/distracted/sleepy/drunk driver veering into concrete viaduct/parked semi/redwood tree tunnel/etc.?

So many permanent hazards are protected by different types of barricades but plenty aren't.

Given that it's in the passenger side it seems like it may have been the driver of the Vanagon that went off-track. Where's our motor vehicle forensics expert?

For some reason I want to think it went off an embankment and crashed into rocks upside down.
Or actually not upside down but nose and passenger side down.

My best guess is they hit a structure of some kind, building wall or something similar.

There is no impression of anything the size of the average car indented into the metal unless he rear-ended Fedex truck or something like that.

It looks more like something hit it vs it crashing, like a slow moving tractor.

I think an impact like that would have sent the hubcaps flying off.

I think you see both damage from accident and extrication there, like A pillar cuts

I really like the option of getting the 1 yr. warranty for that ebay ad for only $14.99!

Hope they weren't hurt too bad in the accident.

Every death is N-1 on the inexorable slope to 0.

Wanes poetically.

That will not buff out.

I dare someone to put that pic on an RFQ and send to Don.

a new threat to Vanagons. Wonder how many barn yard finds are lost due to wildland fires?

Not sure if this is a recent or an old picture, but ouch. I park under some big trees and worry when we get wind storms.

^^^ I believe that is Ron Salmon's (Bus Depot). If so it is an old post but still a testament to how strong these bodies are.

vwhammer Thu Feb 21, 2019 2:48 pm
