OK, I have not seen the car i person so maybe I'm not the man to judge it but I'm familiar with his problem. Yes, he did get scewed with the bodyshop who made the patchwork... That he told me too...
He sadly wasn't that much into the technicals of the cars, or doing the job him self. He was more of the office type of guy.. |

Due to Don's physical limitations he was not able to do any of the work. That is why he was taken advantage of so much, he had to rely on other people. |

We have an email from Karmann Museum stating that in their opinion, Karmann never claimed to have built any Hebs. When in Germany last, we asked a Karmann historian for written records indicating they had built the last Hebs. Karmann told us they had no records of such car(s).
For more speculation on this, see Heinz's last column in VVWCA Vintage Voice Magazine. He dedicated three pages of the discussion to the Hebmuller.
For detailed legal agreements between VW AG and Hebmuller, see www.hebmuller.com There, see English translations of original German documents. |

The car is still here locally owned by his family. Nobody is jealous really. He didnt know that the bumper brackets were backwards and thats basic. Just the tip of the iceberg of problems that car has. Its just too bad heb #6 was the worst restored heb ever. Thats what you get when you have Scott, a 17 year old kid work on a car he knows absolutely nothing about. |

Are you talking about Don Garies red / white Heb #6? If so, that car has a split dash and its an early Hebmuller production line car. Thats one of two I know of in Texas. The other one is in Houston and has a split dash as well. I know of three heb's in houston. All three with split dashes. :D |

That white one sold in Germany in december 2004 was indeed a bad Hebmuller at the firste look.....but.....at second view?
The roof was OK and all hebmuller exept the back window.
The dash was cut and replaced with a later beetle dash but the rest was all original. It was just the twin gloveboxes and dashpodholes that were cut and replaced.
The front part with the bodynr however was also replaced with a 50's area part.
Wings and bumpers are wrong as are the lights.
Wheels are 356 Porsches, Pan was on 1949 title.
Engine was also not correct .
The rest is all hebmuller and very complete to me and I whould be very glad to have in my garage. The price on that car was also Ok However I did not bought it because the color was not my thing? :D
The car is identified by VIN and the owner now knows the bodynr.
I must say that when a Hebmuller come up for sale and you want one , you have to pay a price for it. And it is not cheap. Even a "worse" car or restored car is not cheap to buy .
I am just saying that even it is a bad looking car or it looks like a bad restauration , it still be a rare Coachbuilt car called HEBMULLER. |

I agree with you on that one. I would have been happy to own this white one my self even if it had all the late beetle parts.... :? I would have hade suitable donorcars for the wrong parts too... |

there was at one time a hebmuller sitting in agarage in ft worth texas that had been hit in the front end and had been repaired with a oval front clip. This was due to the fact that there are hardly any splits in texas at that point. Most have been imported and even to this day there are a small handful. Tony has one 51? ,I have 2 now 47, 52 ragtop, kelley has a 49,another 49 in waxahachie, and a few floating around in south texas one I imported was blue and was for sale not to long ago on here.
john
ps in that same garage there was a 23 window barndoor also..jeff keller got it gone now I assume |

The 54 Barndoor 23 was sold to Brett Barberie the Pro Baseball player but recently got shipped to the UK. Jef said the preacher that owned it had a heb at some point. Also said he scored that Barn 23 for $4000 which he thought was a lot back then. I bet hes kicking himself in the ass today for selling it. I think he doubled his money and thought he did good. |

Did you ever find the Heb pic. I would guess 2001, but I don't see any pics of that show online .

I don't think I have ever seen a Photo of the Heb while it was in Ft. Worth; just heard it was there. (years afterward)
I think it might have been in Lubbock, Tx way back in the late 50s or early 60s,
in San Antonio some time around 61 to 62.
in FTW Tx It could have been in Sweeny / Old Ocean, Tx after FTW and before 1989. I stopped there in 1989 and the church was having a lunch. They invited us to eat. I was talking to someone there and mentioned old VWs. He said. we *used to have* a preacher with an old VW Convertible..." So the owner was there and maybe the car. I Asked him once if he knew of any other Hebs in Texas and he mentioned a pale blue one he had seen before. A few years ago, we finally found a pic of that one at the VW/Porsche Training Center in San Antonio from about 1969. .... .... A friend of mine and I both turned down that barndoor :/ for $4k or $8k.

Hi folks. Abaout the Oval dash Heb. In the past we had no info or picts. Meanwhile we have in the registry at least cars with Oval dash.
One is heb 730. Checked and is original. the 2 others are for sure made on Zwitter based body's Checked and original.
About Hebs made at Karmann... yes, they and no.. They did not build Hebs but finished them as far as I know. I have all Chassisnumbers on the ones that are done by Karmann.. Not 12 but at least 15.
You can check out the Hebmuller registry here:
https://www.hebmueller-registry.com/home.html
The Heb that was in the states and had a Oval dash( not original ) was Heb nr 76. It is now In Europe .
