Hello,
I purchased a South African grille, used, grille only. It came with no hardware or anything but the black plastic grille.
So, for those that have mounted one, what else will I need and how is it mounted? I know I need headlight buckets from a round-eye Vanagon, and I have sourced some 1990 Cabriolet inner high beams which will fit the smaller lamp holes.
I see two metal tapered metal pins on either side of the upper grille, I assume these pins snap into some sort of female end mounted on the Van?
Does the VW emblem slide in from the front or from behind?
I also see two holes in the plastic itself, one above and one below the center emblem. Are these utilized in mounting?(I really need to know this either way as if they are not used for mounting I will utilize them for something else, this grille is cracked in this area and it would be nice to be able to rivet a rear-bracket into these holes).
Thanks for any info.

The metal pins are pushed into the spring clips on your round head light buckets. You need to reuse one of your slot-headed mounting pins and rubber bushings from your old grill and install them in the upper center hole. Tighten this pin just like your old grill, the spring clip is already there on the body.
You might want to take out the spring clips from the buckets and loosen ( make them wider ) them so it is easier if you want to remove the grill later.
The emblem goes in from the front. |
