Hey folks,
I haven't seen a "Roll Call" thread for NC van owners so I thought I'd start one up. Following the format of the others please state your location and model.

I'm also hoping to organize a semi-regular meet in the Piedmont Triad area if anyone is interested. Winston, Greensboro, etc. :D

Currently:
1986 Syncro Westfalia Wolfsburg Weekender
1989 Westfalia GL 2wd, Automatic

Gone but not forgotten:
1987 Westfalia GL 2wd, 4spd

Hi Josh,

Cameron here, fellow Winston-Salem Vanagon owner. You have seen my '84 Westy with the Subaru engine. An NC meet (statewide or regional) would be great.

sc1out Wed Dec 15, 2010 6:16 pm

Northern Guilford County, Browns Summit, 1984 Vanagon in the rebuild stage. Would love to drag it out and drive to a meet in the future!

Herr Motorspiele Wed Dec 15, 2010 10:38 pm

Cameron,
I hope all is well with you and your subagon. :D
I'm planning to contact a couple other locals that don't lurk here if there's enough interest.
What's best for you? Weekends, weeknights, etc.

sc1out,
How long till you're back on the road?

sc1out Thu Dec 16, 2010 12:05 am

I would like to think 90 days but----work, cold weather, etc. Realistically I am expecting more time. But I would love to get together way before then.
I am in Milan right now and that sort of impedes progress. All I can do is read the forum and order parts. Will PM you a contact #.

Josh,

This is Mark in W-S with my '87 Westy w/ Suby engine thanks to Cameron's help. Getting together sounds good!

Herr Motorspiele Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:55 pm

Hey Mark,
Hope all is well with you too!
Looks like we're off to a good start. :)

I guess let's look at sometime after New Year's? Maybe a Saturday afternoon? Any suggestions?

Charlotte 87 Westy
I need to get the thermostat, fan switch and shifter ball then all should be well. Would love to meet up with some more NC vanagon owners. BTW there is a big show coming up in August in Ohio.

Doc at downtown Beaufort, NC Feb 2010

Shad and Barb with "Doc", an 1984 Westy with a Bostig/Zetec conversion (just passed 2000 miles), in Beaufort, NC. We called Cape Lookout National Seashore home for 6 years (off and on), but we have just transferred to Cumberland Island National Seashore in southern Georgia. If we can find the time we would try and make a get together, even if we don't live in NC anymore.

Hello!
I'm in Raleigh/Cary
1987 westy with 4K on my Zetec
Nice install Doc-I'd love to see and compare soon and to give us an excuse to visit the shore in style

wynnep,
What color is your van?
I've seen a burgundy 86-87 model around Jonestown and Country Club a couple times. Just wondering if that's you. :)

Gobbles,
I went to Uwharrie years ago but haven't been back in a van. I think that would be a cool place to host an East Coast Syncro Fest. (2wd's welcome of course) 8)

Ranger Shad,
I envy you. Cumberland Island is such a cool place. I do hope to meet up before you are transferred. I would like to see your conversion.

That Might be me. My westy is burgandy with a silver stripe, wheels painted black, no hubcaps. There is also another Burgandy van in this area. Don't know if it is a westy or not. Also someone at Jonestown and Clemmons rd(hwy 158) has 2 westys(light tan/blue?). I have my work done by Richard Long at Long VW off of Griifth Rd. Who does your work?
I am in the process of replacing the water pump, hoses, fuel lines, and checking grounds. The more I do the more I tear up. Looking for a Hall Sender unit and a driver side grease cap for the front wheel. Pmail me and lets get together.

wynnep,
Cool! I've also seen a burgundy camper parked off Jonestown Rd. sort of behind the shopping center at 421. You can usually see it from the highway when heading North. Not sure if that's you. I'll PM you, I'd like to get a group together. I'm thinking maybe a Saturday afternoon? Early to mid January?

I do all my own work. I went to Richard a long time ago with my first van, before I had a shop to work in. Now I try to do most everything myself if possible.

I also know of three more guys in the area with vans, one has a Tiico swap, but I don't think they are active on the forum. I thought I'd just email them when we lock in a date to get together.
