I bought the bus back in 2004 and it looked really nice (well I thought so)
stock height and pretty standard apart from it having the wrong bumpers

but I soon got bored (bit of problem with me  )
so first I tried to find the right bumpers but only managed to find a front to start with, thanks to 54doubledoor :)

I then decided to lower it for the first time

but this didn't last long so decided to lower it a bit more and managed to find a rear bumper :D

then I got bored again and as rust had starting coming through on the bottom of the doors I thought it would be a good time to strip back the paint and see what was underneath the many layers of paint.
I found lots of filler and lots of dents but i kinda liked it

that pretty much brings us up to date, apart from lowering it a touch more

so up to date pics

I am toying with stripping some more paint off the top and having the blue up to the roof but not sure yet
sorry for boring you, but thought it would be nice to put it all in one thread :D

Cool!

i don't think this look of making it intentionally neglected does much for this bus. too many silly decals.

Cool bus, man! I like what you did with it.

it is not intentionally neglected, it was stripped back to see what horrors were hiding under the paintwork as I wanted to get the main base of the bus pretty much solid, if this is a bad thing then I am sorry :-)

Agree - I'd rather a dent than bondo.

how times have changed. i'm strictly talking about the outward appearance of the bus. of course it's your bus and the most important thing is doing whatever brings you the most enjoyment. the irony is that it will probably stay looking like that for a very long time.

scvw- your bus looks awesome. some people don't understand the difference.

Amazing how much people presume to know what's going on ;-)

UZI Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:25 am

so then what is going on? are you not enjoying it?

it could be an awesome bus. right now i think it looked better before you started. of course i understand the old "it's gonna get worse before it gets better" wink wink

again, your bus but between the decals and the deluxe trim, i think it went in the wrong direction. the roof rack looks like a millipede. i wonder how long it will be before peeps in the UK start raising their buses back to stock height?

stillbleedingmoody Fri Dec 17, 2010 12:21 pm

got to be honest you are the first person to knock the rack :D

and yes I am enjoying it of course, if you dont enjoy these vehicles then you shouldn't be driving them,
yes it does look better in the pictures before but i did find a lot of stuff that needed sorting and there is still a lot needs doing before it could get painted again but time and money mean it's one bit at a time, which i think is the problem most people have :?

On the raising back to stock comment, it's already started!!! :D

Of all of them I like the third pic from the top, add the rear bumper and that's really sweet... When I get bored I usually go for a spin... I do like the stock height better but I go on back roads and places some people refuse to take their bus.

Anyway it's a nice ride.. Cant wait to see the next batch of photo's...

I really dislike that roof rack shape. Are those made by BBT? I thought U.S. was lucky enough not to have those running around here, but I saw CIP1 is selling them now. That flat top look just doesn't look right.

As for the bus, It sounds like you are going the right direction with it.

not everybody likes a super sweet clean glossy painted ride... I my self like my beetle to look like shit... you didn't know? its what all the cool kids are doing now 'a' days...

This post isn't to defend Uzi, he can handle himself pretty good, but you should check out his gallery. He isn't a "super sweet clean glossy painted ride" kinda guy. He has/had an incredible collection of orginal paint VW's not to mention being the don of the Jersey Looker Mafia. 8)

i'm not out to knock the guys ride and i'm not out to compare weenie size. it's a pandora's box when you start to pick away at a bus. you gotta either go for it or leave it alone in my opinion. that's not patina'd, it's not buffed and clearcoated. it's a bus that has had the repaints partially scraped off. the cool thing about that bus is that it's a 58 kombi. at a glance with the color combo and the trim, it looks like a 64-7 13 window. it lacks the purity and simplicity that a kombi embodies.

i'd like to see the problems get sorted.

as for what the "cool kids" are doing, my beetle almost got that same treatment. even the guy that owned it briefly told me he was glad he didn't do it.

To be honest I'm suprised a t the reaction it caused, however I do enjoy the banter that it creates, it's what makes this scene fun, the I like this you think it's crap stuff does make me chuckle, as Uzi said earlier on he is not out to knock it I think he just doesn't want to see it rot away and end up as scrap, which is fair point.
I can guarantee that won't happen /-) not while I own it anyway,
cheers for the criticism anyway lol
merry Christmas :-)
