is it possible for me to hook up the newer 1600 heaterboxes.. to the older, 1956 heater channel inlets? i can find the tubes to hook newer heaterboxes to newer beetles, and older heaters to my car, but none that are like an "adapter". if anyone could help me on this matter id greatly appreciate it. |

If you have the later accordian heater tubes that fit the boxes, you can adapt them down to the smaller size inlet tubes on the body by using steel exhaust pipe components... most Auto parts stores have a selection of short "adaptor" pieces that you may mind the one you need to step it down, or go to a Muffler shop and ask if they will use their pipe bending machine to make you some. If you find a cool shop I'm sure the will grab some short scrap of pipe and it would take all of about 5 mins to make them... be sure to take a tube with you and an O.D. measurement of the inlet pipe on the body.... |

I can't remember which at the moment but either Chirco or Rocky mountain or Barneys or one of the other VW parts supplier sells a heater tube for hooking up late heater boxes into early bugs.Call around you'll find them. When I remember which company sells them I will post it.Good luck. |

Rocky Mountain Motorworks has them and their part # is 113 255 355A. Maybe others do as well. |

Thanks Tim!, now what am I? chopped liver???
LOL! I had never seen those but I have seen them adapted... I came up with the muffler pipe cause I have some good buds that work at a muffler shop and once I had a car that someone had used PVC pipe not realizing the heat potential of a VW they got hot and melted down! |

I haven't been able to get long enough tubes for my thing and am going to try the adapter idea to add length.(sounds like some of my junk mail). The muffler shop idea is better than using a shop towel wrapped around the heater channel like I've done in the past. |
