| It looks like, for group 10 and earlier, you need the 2010 coolant system - true? Is there anything else that one would need to upgrade, in a group 10 install? The oil pan? |

My opinion and words are my own. Stefan is a good friend. When i am told the feds are called on him because someone questioned the legality of his swap noteing pics not taken by him, me, or anyone else i know it erks me. When this someone tries with the use of said pics to note oxy sensors were deleted(they weren't just couldn't see em in the pics) it erks me. These pics were taken at Syncro De Mayo meaning someone took the care to try and take weak ass spy photos to incriminate someone for trying to add to the 'Vanagon community. Weak sauce.
When the topic of engine conversions comes up i offer my experience and the facts around my conversion for some reason certain people take offense to it, go figure. All the while i am being made by some to be a bullying dick full of negetiveity....
Now to those who know me and actully read what i am saying know i am not an a-hole and am free and willing to offer up help when and where i can. |

My rant was MY probs with Bostig. As i mentioned earlier they are MY gripes and have nothing to do with Stefans Auto. When i decide to rant agin i'll just start a thread about how much i think putting a z-tec in a Vanagon is not the greatest idea  |

Just as a note, for ranting, raving, there is a dedicated forum that was wisely setup so that we can be spared the emotions and tantrums.

I'm awfully tempted-in fact, I know the torque and HP numbers are very close to what most Syncro guys are seeing with 2.0 TDI's
This is the torque we need-200 feet of it are perfect
I don't care what conversion you have-the westy needs the 200 feet of torque for modern driving-all the best ones are there-the 1.8T, TDI's, the 2.5 subaru, and now the turbo'd zetec-i'm gutted! |

| jyl, I believe you are right that you will need the 2010 cooling system upgrade, and you will need the HC oil pan. |

Very interesting Jim (hope you read that), keep the good work.
No need to start arguing with that guy, you have better thing to do.
I like the presentation page, very very well done. Those # look pretty safe to me.

"jyl, I believe you are right that you will need the 2010 cooling system upgrade, and you will need the HC oil pan."
I saw a 2010 install w/ the 2010 cooling system, at the recent PDX get-together. It is so much simpler and cleaner than the previous version, which I have. I liked it!
Looks like the retail turbo kits will have discounts for v.2 installs that will offset the cost of the cooling system upgrade and the HC oil pan.
Does anyone know if the turbo location is compatible with A/C adapter/hose routing?
The only other thing I wonder about is if the intercooler/fan will require me to move my ECU box which is in the driver/rear corner of the engine compartment. Not a big deal, just curious. |

I feel bad for Stephan. Between Jedi and Dredward he isn't gaining any popularity around one of (if not) the largest Vanagon forums.
I don't think they understand how their negativity is affecting other's decisions to go with his company. They're treating conversions as a sporting event as if somebody is going to win a trophy.
We've seen multiple posts from numerous zetec owners stating they are quite happy with their conversions and Bostig is a company to back. On the other hand (and unfortunately for Stephan) We've only heard from his two cronies about how we've all been hoodwinked and stupid for wasting our time and money. Bad business. :? |

| You do NOT need the cooling upgrade for turbo-only the oil pan-this is straight from Jim's e-mail to the Bostig google group |

Hi All,
Thanks for having a look at the info page. Please keep in mind two things:
1) This is a development project in a beta release stage, not a product (yet).
2) We can answer any and all questions and are happy to do so. I see lot's of questions here, if you have them please contact us. It's better not to respond here since some of those answers may change.
Thanks Ben, I did read that.
Unfortunately I also need to address Edward's (Dredward's) post in this thread. I call Shenanigans.
Firstly, I feel I do have some culpability in the matter and I called Stephan to explain it since I felt guilty when I heard about the "visit". Two years ago, when I was in contact with the BAR and the CARB trying to get clarification on the legality issues for our own conversion, I referenced the 1.8t since it was an OBDII conversion, "legal" and getting stickered without the transmission from the donor and a relocated converter (neither are permissible by BAR's guidelines, but which they've softened stance on since then as Stephan told me from the visit), which made it closest to our situation. I didn't use the name of the shop, or location. Stephan and I swapped info on issues like this the first time we met. Stephan agreed it's possible this was part of, or a starting point on the file that the BAR had on them. However whatever triggered the visit, including submitted photos etc I nor anyone at Bostig had a hand in. The O2 sensor objection is pedestrian, incorrect, and easy to fix. If we were out to be calculated pricks, we'd do a much better job. I appreciate the guilty until proven innocent approach that Edward has, but I also appreciate that he doesn't care to correctly spell the name of a good friend. Similarly the accusations themselves are passionate, but careless and incorrect. I fully understand them, but I won't allow the toxicity of this issue tarnish the work we're doing regardless of where it comes from.
I think everyone needs to remember that as an ardent supporter of any group, we should recognize when we may be doing it a disservice. That, and "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" is true with no limitation on endangering only the one with a little knowledge. Our efforts and intentions are obvious from the turbo info page and it's links. I'm baffled how well people can read into material without actually reading it. Now I need to go back to some actual work on the turbo project, and it is that work that will speak louder than any of the words in this or any other thread.

Please go start your own thread.
This Bostig thread does need BS from you or hype about the 1.8T conversion that has its own flaws in my opinion.
Go tend to your busted up van and stop hyjacking threads.
Thanks.
