I had to change an axle on my 64 bug (swing axle) and am in the process of putting on the rear bearing. How far in does the bearing go? I've tapped and tapped it in, but it still won't "set" into the bearing housing. When I pull on the axleshaft, it comes out. Should there be any play on the axleshaft? Does tighten the hub bolt to 240 pounds set the bearing in farther?
Thanks for your help.

when you torque the drum on it will set the bearing, no worries, your not doing anything wrong. just make sure you have the small spacer behind the bearing.

The axle nut shjould be tightened to 217ftlbs - not 240.

From memory, the bearing does project a mm or two from the hub.
