I have a 73 F.I 914 that is driven about 100 miles a year..it slowly started to back fire once in a while and grad got worse..now it runs horribly...( Checked valve gap.. good,. cleaned plugs that were replaced 4 years ago they were black,trigger points removed and cleaned,installed new points and condenser,plug wires, cap ,rotor,replaced 4 years ago,gas is fresh,fuel filter replaced,all vac and gas lines replaced,fuel pump works,batt good,throttle switch checked out ok with no change when I unplugged it,head temp sensor ok,aux air reg switch ok.. still wont run or will run for 30 sec then shuts down..timing is ok too. good compression..( WHATS LEFT TO CHECK?).. looks like the shop will have to do.....at $ 95.00 per hour.. anyone know what else I can do?.."E" |

if the plugs are going black its running way too rich so I would install a new CHT sensor as that sets the fuel mix when cold..common for em to go bad and cause this issue. |

If the pressure sensor has an internal leak and will not hold a vacuum, the mixture will be very rich. |

Also check all the vac hoses. Given it sits so much, wouldn't surprise me if some of them have dried out enough to leak more and more each year. Check them at the ends, the start to frey out and not seal anymore. |
