Hey everyone. I am going to post a very annoying message.
I purchased a 1957 beetle that was on a 1970 chassis. It looked good. But as things go, the more I got into it, the worse things were. There was the routine rust, the front was hacked up to put a late gas tank in and there were random types of screws put in the pan to body. The body mounts by the rear wheels were also hacked in.
I had planned to take the '57 body off, find a donor '57 pan and make a stock '57. So I stripped the '57 and purchased a pretty wrecked '57 with a good title. I know its not right, but I had planned to take the front end (including vin tag) from the wrecked '57, and the pan, and put it on the 57 body and make a beautiful stock 57. I had big plans. I got the 57 pan all stripped, put new pans on it, and planned to rebuild the running gear. I also took the pieces that I thought were good from the wrecked 57 and cut them apart to keep them.
I started stripping the 57/70, got all the interior out, glass out, planning to lift the body, maybe sell the 70 pan (it has a running engine that this wacko put together, so I don't know that i'd trust it for long)...
long story short, getting divorced, she gets the house with the double garage. I have been trying to putter and get something done in my townhouse with 1 car garage, hoping I could still get it done, figuring its a long term project. She was ok with my car stuff being there for a while...
Purchased three 36hp engines (one seized, others turning), stripped them.
purchased the nice green heater channels to put in the bug and had a whole buch of other random parts, mostly suspension...
so now my back has gone from being a minor problem to a major problem, and my ex wants all the stuff out of her place.
I could find a rental space, but I'd just be paying to warehouse it. I don't have land and its time to call it.
I know that isn't much to go on, and the world is full of these ruined dreams, enough so that they aren't so rare. Anyway, its a '57 sedan. I don't have the original engine. If someone wants to stick to my plan, they could use the VIN tag from the wrecked '57 and the pan from the wrecked '57 and just fix up an engine. I've got those nice heater channels, two rear glass, no front glass (broke while in storage), some pop-outs from the wrecked '57. other parts...
It doesn't matter how much I bought it all for, but I am thinking if someone would give me 4k and come and pick it all up (I can't really help because of my back)... that sounds fair to me, right? The 57/70 has a title in my name, the '57 I have a title for that I never transferred to me (I could if that would be better). Anyway, does that seem on the mark? Thanks everyone for reading this. I am heartbroken, but its time to throw my cards down.
