There is one volunteer position left. Giving a little time to the event make it a little bit more yours.
Glad to see there is so much interest in this event(much thanks to the organizers) and I am looking forward to meeting some new :vw: folks. :D

Inorder to properly plan for the event we will be closing registration on April 13th. With 72 vans currently signed up it looks like we are going to have a great turn out, especially for a new event. We have lots of exciting events planned and we are looking forward to some good dirty syncro fun!
Registration is here http://syncrofest.com/register/
Who is coming? http://syncrofest.com/whos-coming/
Hope to see you there!

Cant make the event, but I gotta have a key chain. The first photo would be my choice.

Sorry guys, I won't make it. I'm supposed to go on a Scuba Diving trip to Wreck Alley in San Diego that weekend. I'll think of all the fun you're having while I'm 100feet down inside a shipwreck

Just to change things up a little this year we are going to have a new driving event. Here is roughly how it's going to work; every van will have a paper card attached to it in the same spot (like the driver door grab handle)with a zip tie. The card can not be removed from the van. Around the park (we will give you a rough idea where they are) there will be paper punches with different shapes secured with a small cable or chain to a fixed object like a tree or a rock. The object is to find the punches and then get the van close enough to the punch that you can punch your card. Some punches will be easier to get than others. Some will require completing more advanced trails.

We will have a drivers meeting to go over all the details but in a nutshell that is what the driving portion of the Warren Chapman Syncro Cup will consist of this year. The will also be a pars ID qiuz and a knowledge test. Start studying now!

This new driving event was developed by Eric and I think it's going to be lots of fun.

Sound cool :)

Don't make it too hard!

Car orienteering, interesting idea for the event this year.

This year we will have a full group meal served on friday night in addition to the regular BBQ feast served up on saturday night. Zach Berning from http://overlandgourmet.com/ will attending the event from Phoenix Arizona and cooking a meal for the whole group. Overland Gourmet is centered around fine outdoor and adventure cooking. Zach is a really cool guy and I'm really excied to introduce him to the vanagon community. He's bringing his cousin with him who is a new vanagon owner who is anxious to see all the cool vans at syncrofest. The meal will be mexican themed (a variety of authentic tacos and such). We'd like to have some homemade salsa if anyone is interested in participating. We'll provide the chips. Bring out your favorite tequilla after dinner for some socializing around the fire!

man oh man, this event just got better! Still wish I could come! Have fun! I can't wait to see pics and videos!

DAIZEE Fri Apr 08, 2011 12:47 pm

Well you know that shipwreck will still be there, BUT this won't ever happen for the FIRST time ever again.

I was going to get a sim card for my iPad when I drive down to syncrofest next weekend ( we are taking our time down the coast) and I was wondering if anyone had any input as to which provider may give us better coverage at hollister hills?
Thanks

Syncrozilla Fri Apr 08, 2011 3:13 pm

Hollister Hills has very poor reception. I have At&t and there is no signal at all in the campground. A short trip up the hill to the gravel pit gets me a signal. I think Drew is planning on setting up a hot spot from his RV. Think that will happen Drew?

syncrodoka Fri Apr 08, 2011 8:24 pm

Yeah, you have to go to higher ground to get cell coverage like the gravel pit or Hector Heights. You are sitting in a valley with no repeaters around so it is difficult with any provider to get reception.

We are just around the corner form the first ever Syncrofest! A NEW event for everything Vanagon and Syncro.

Syncro Challenge, Parts I.D. quiz, and the Technical Quiz. You combine points from these three events to be in contention for the Cup.

The location and difficulty for the check points is points based, the easier ones are less points. You don't need the hard ones if you ace the quiz's.

Last year when we tried this style event at the May event we nearly had a winner that never drove!

Looking forward to seeing all you guys again!

Eric

Why is this event not a sticky? :-s

More important question, and probably a stupid one: Are we all to bring something to the potluck and, if so, what particular items are desired?

syncrodoka Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:37 am

Tasty "home made" deserts have been a real treat in the past.
