Ok this may be a dumb question but whatever I'm curious.

I have done a lot of looking around with the search bar, I don't have a bentley (I know I need to get one). I still haven't found the answer I'm looking for.

On the throttle body there is a lever, the throttle kick down I'm assuming, with a spring connect from it to the plenum. Can someone explain its function and where it should be sitting, how far open or closed it should be. The PO had rebent on of the ends on the spring cause it broke, I'm sure these springs are calibrated. Right?

I removed the spring to see the effects and after hitting the throttle it stayed idling high and never dropped down till I manually moved the lever, so I would like to know the function, proper position and whether or not I can buy a new spring, the right one.

Thanks, and its a manual trans.

I think the purpose of the lever or bellcrank is to pre-load the torsion spring on the throttle shaft. At idle the extra pre-load keeps the throttle plate closed to prevent high idle.

There is no proper position as long as there is some pre-load although most bellcranks tend to settle at or about 30 deg. to the long axis of the T/B.

I don't know if the spring is available as new, shouldn't be hard to find one even if you had to test the tension of the old one with a scale and find a suitable replacment.

A suggestion would be to take the linkage apart and clean and lube items 1,2 and 3 in the picture, these pieces can become rusted or clogged with dirt over time and their free movement is important.
