Yes the RMW tray is included. It can hold a cooler or some other stuff.

Very nice, but why not mount the tire on the passenger side?
With our Westy's already heeling to port, wouldn't it be better to have the weight on the passenger side?

Yes! I would add that it's better on the other side should you ever want to open it on the side of the road, that is, away from traffic.

It kind of disturb the flow when your camping that way. Just my thoughts. I can appreciate your point of view though.

RMW-

The hi lift jack holder is clever. The whole thing is nice actually. I especially like the shelf. I still like the looks of the tire in the center better but the shelf is very useful so I like this design too.

Since I bought one of the last (maybe the last) GW carriers on clearance I was really worried I'd want to upgrade to the new improved carrier before I even got mine bolted on. Thanks for showing off the prototype.

I'm with you I was looking at other racks and didn't like them being on the passenger side as it would interfere with camping. Now having an arm long enough to stretch the tire to the passenger side while keeping the hinges on the driver side would be an interesting prospect. On the drivers side you could mount a mountain bike or something like a jack or gas can. Just a though. Maybe I will draw something up.

There is plenty of air rushing aroud the tire to the radiator. I have not noticed any increase in water temperature. It has been about 15,000
miles since I built and installed it.

Sweet! I can't wait to get it bolted up. I'm never going to have to sleep next to my spare tire while camping again!

I'll post pics of the install as soon as I get the parts. I've got two gas cans to bolt on for demonstration purposes. I still need to source hi lift jack mounts. I'm designing some shovel and axe mounting brackets in my head at work today. I'd love to carry those on it too.

To my understanding most spare tire holders are on the drivers side so when you unload from the back to the curb you dont have to walk around the tire carrier. Now iirc i heard this from a car salesman so that might be a pile of crap.

A counterpoint is that - at least on westys and weekenders - you already have 1 blind spot where the closet is so you may as well put a tire there too.

Having a Syncro Westy i've wanted a spare tire carrier on the passenger side to even the weight balance for offroading.

We make different posts for different applications. For the stock metal bumper, it ties back to the bumper mount behind the metal bumper. Sorry no pics of that.

Wanted to add to this thread rather then start a new one.

Does anyone have pictures of how the stock Syncro 16" spare gets mounted inside the van? I am thinking about going this route for my spare but want some ideas on how to bolt it up before I get too excited about the idea. I imagine it is fairly straightforward.
