“Weekender package” as originally offered was a tintop van with fold down bench seat/bed
but no additional cabinets. (Someone chime in: did it include a 12v fridge/cooler?)
For some reason, the term “weekender” has come to mean a poptop camper with rear corner
cabinet, fold down side table & rear-facing jump seat(s). This did include a 12v fridge/cooler.
Question is, what are you looking at & what do you need to know? :?:

In my opinion it's not a weekender if it does not have a pop top and a rear cabinet.
Anything else is just a Carat or a passenger van with a rock n roll bed. Go Westy goes in to detail about in their FAQ's.
Of course this is my Opinion, Most people call anything with a bed a Weekender.
Oh don't get me going on OE vs OEM.

Technically-speaking, VW never called it a "Weekender", but modern vernacular has simply come to calling a pop-top camper sans kitchenette a Weekender.
And, yes, the 1985 Vanagon Wolfsburg Edition is a pop-top camper without a kitchenette, but did come equipped with 12V fridge and second battery:
