^ An ugly little bugger, but I'm sure that it was in high demand in its Communist countries at the time due to the many months or even years' waiting list.

It was the first East German car made of Duroplast.

I recognize the van in the background, but I can't figure out what it is. Can anyone help?

I've posted that question in the wtf is that? thread - https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10459683#10459683

I was thinking framo but the front details are wrong...

finster, you’re a funny dude.

RUNKLE wrote: finster wrote: spotted in the background of a photo in the oval forum, 1950s germany - any ideas?

It looks like an early 1930s Framo V 501 Lieferwagen, with some strange covering over the grill, and for lack of a better term, wing/fender fillets/fairings.

Thank you for finding that info.

Based on my research using the information you provided, and considering that the vehicle looks too much like a Framo V 501 Lieferwagen, I’m going to say that it is a Framo Lieferwagen that has been converted to electric.

I was also thinking of a "standard delivery van" from Framo, Ostner or Manderbach.

Okay, that narrows it down—it's a Framo and a Manderbach.

Pre-WWII, there was a collaboration between the two companies; Manderbach produced the 'delivery van' for Framo. Post-WWII, Manderbach started producing the 'delivery van' again, using the Framo design."

Postwar Manderbach was a Framo with Ford-engine!
