| Gents ,, I have a December of 1954 built American spec Deluxe sunroof beetle and am looking for the correct Date speedometer and was wondering if the Dates that are stamped on the back of the speedometer should read the same month and year as the build date ? . If So would a December of 54 stamped speedo be correct for my car ?? Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

| VW hadn't yet used the JIT (just in time) inventory management that the Japanese used starting in the late 1960s. Instead they used a "safety stock" method to ensure the line was never halted for lack of parts. Therefore you could see component dates up to a few months prior to the final vehicle assembly date. |

For reference,
I have a Nov 2nd 54 car with a 10/54 speedo.
My Jan 7 55 has a 12/54 speedo. |
