I use the notepad and pen method.
As Trevor can attest to, it's deadly accurate. Except when you forget to write down your fill ups. I think we ran out of gas twice on the way to Cali and back. Jumped out and switched it over to reserve.
I think we were averaging 340-350km per tank, without using the reserve. Keeping in mind the speedo is out, because of the tire size. |

That gas can was the smartest purchase we made on that trip...besides the "I Love Beaver" T-shirts of course. |

Someone needs to repop the Dehn ones. I've seen the digital gages, which are pretty nice, but nothing else. Can a later one be adapted? I would be hessitant to cut a hole in my tank unless I knew it would work. |

I already talked to the king of the repro Dehn gas gauges. He and I agree that there would not be enough sold to even cover the tooling to make them. I was going to send him the very same one in the picture above as a sample. |

VDO and Motometer brown face 52mm fuel gauges would be period correct, and the gauges most likely to have been installed in an early barndoor when they were new. VDO "striped' gauges unofficially came out in late 1954, so these would be correct for late barndoors, although there probably weren't many of these gauges around by mid-1955 and the vast majority of them went int Ovals. I had one that was stamped 6/1954. I'm in the process of turning it into an oil temp gauge. |

Tell me about it. Even if everyone who has a roadworthy barndoor wanted a gauge, that'd be like what... 300 units total? |

3) Beck

Another Motometer? Different location choice - think I prefer top left. From the ex Anchovy dlx. Not sure if it stayed in the bus post resto.
