The link stinks...but you can get there.
I have not used a Rebel kit but have heard decent things about them. They are cost friendly.
You will need lots of ground wire in addition to the kit. |

| My personal opinion is 4 circuits are not enough. 6 maybe. 8....OK your just fine. 12...and your usually over-kill. |

I used their 9+3 on my 52 chevy. Its a great harness with clear instructions and support. Took me 3 hours to essentially have the whole car wired.
I spent a solid week fighting the pos empi universal buggy harness to get it to work on my buggy.
When the time comes to do it over I am going to buy the Rebel VW harness for sure. |

Just spoke with Bob (owner of Rebel Wire) earlier today.
He patterned the harnesses from a take-out VW Beetle factory harness. A number of shops in the southeast have been using his 8-circuit street-rod harness in buggy builds & are well-pleased with the quality. Bob is a straight-up fellow & is the owner/operator/fabricator/tech-support guy. The street-rod 8-circuit harness has enough wire, in most cases, to wire up a buggy. A conversation with a couple buggy buddies confirmed that they are using 4 fused circuits in their buggies.
Bob is getting my business - he builds a quality product, at a good price -
Try buying the quality wire he uses - I sell wire & copper has gone from $3.20/lb to over $4.25/lb in the past 7 months... you get what you pay for.

| Haven't looked to much into wiring yet, but looks like a good choice. Ill keep up on this thread and probably order one up in the next couple weeks if the comments are positive. Looks to be a good deal too. 100 bucks for the kit. Ya you could probably buy the wire and fuse panel and such for about that, but then you need to figure out how to make one. Looks clean and professional. Plus its not chineese junk. American made. |

A few guys over at dunebuggyarchives have used them and are very happy with the quality and ease of installation. I'm thinking of using their mid mount electrical kit for my next Bug project with the fuse panel in the rear seat area.

Not all Chinese manufactured items are junk - my wire manufacturer in China makes some very nice quality wiring... used in everything from medical equipment to Cisco products, Panasonic & Sony electronics items, etc...
Depends on the manufacturer & their quality control and manufacturing procedures...

These are nice kits. Wires are lableled. Fuse block is solid.
Not an Empi bag of wires... |

Another thread stated the REBEL kits are assembles by American Auto Wire... The American Auto Wire kits (two I have used) seem to use appropriate wire gauge for type of load each circuit requires and I would guess the design criteria would also be supported into kits manufactured for other vendors...
If it were my choice I would go with minimum 8 fuse kit....

Watson himself made the comment in the other thread that their kits are made by American Autowire... Bob at Rebel makes his own kits.

Hate to revive an old thread.... But.
Just wanted to know how the harness turned out... Did you go with 8 circuit or did you do the hot rod kit... Seems like the vw kit would be color coded... And I see they have a deluxe kit for 16 circuits which would be good for options I think....
I am going to order today... Just doing research. |
