Hope who gets it? A pic or a link in this kind of random post is usually quite helpful.

Keith Fri Mar 11, 2011 8:16 pm

Yeah for 80K it should be beyond mint. That thing has surface rust on the undercarriage, rusty bolts, grimey speedo and pod and stained door cards!!

Jake Martinez Fri Mar 11, 2011 8:42 pm

stop hating dude

I can intelligently speak on behalf of this Kombi since I use to own it most of the 1980's.

Original low mileage California matching numbers Barndoor that was solid, complete and original including the dove blue paint. No welding or repair panels needed! EVER

I can't speak as to it's life after my ownership, but If I had the money to drop on it, I would do it in a heart beat just to get it back home.

Barndoors of this caliber don't come up for sale to often, but if you want to play the game, you have to pay.

Everything is negotiable, and the final selling price is between the buyer and seller.

EverettB Fri Mar 11, 2011 11:04 pm

My first thought was why the mileage wasn't mentioned as I assumed this had to be an original mileage Bus... which was confirmed above by a previous owner.

My second thought was are some of the springs broken in the front seat back rest on the driver's side? It looks uneven.

$80K asking price doesn't bother me... I'd be more interested to know the actual sales price when it sells.

Although all of us who own a Barndoors would, I am sure, love to see it sold for such money, it is a scary thought that someone would pay 80 k.

UZI Sat Mar 12, 2011 5:53 am

there is a level of buyer out there beyond what the rest of us broke dicks can imagine. there are also vehicles out their to suit those buyers tastes. serious collectors with serious money.

would anyone believe that a barndoor deluxe brought in the neighborhood of $275-300K?

as for the "rust"- i would rather see that then an undercarriage covered up with a rust preventative product.

My coments came from the fact that its advertised as RESTORED. That to me would mean a total going over no stone unturned restoration.

Now that I know its a SURVIVOR with original paint etc. The price seems like its not bad and the nice rust free (except surface rust) undercarriage is fine.

BUCIOBATISTI Sat Mar 12, 2011 9:33 am

Can we get a GED up in here?

From the ad
Quote: The body is displaying a older and nice respray in the original Dove Blue color.

It still sounds like a fairly low mileage survivor-type Bus, just with a repaint and redone upholstery.

the kombi is the ultimate quintessential vw bus model...........ok my personal opinion,i like the price, best of luck to the seller and salesman

Also from the ad....the first few lines to be exact. I didnt read all the rest after this so

"1954 Barndoor Kombi, Nicely Restored, Original Engine!"
"Here is a beautiful restored Dove Blue Barndoor Kombi that not only looks great but runs and drives nicely as well."

norcalmike Sat Mar 12, 2011 10:54 am

if a "deluxe" double cab with a salvage title can get 64k, im willing to bet that BD will get 80.

Rick Sat Mar 12, 2011 11:49 am

for the sake of my children's college education I HOPE it sells for that much. Then I might be able to afford books....for one kid...for one year....
