I have been mulling over different options available to get back into a Vanagon. I have decided I would like to find a decent Vanagon candidate to drive for 2-3 years, then use the ABA 2.0L engine from my daughter's Jetta as a replacement when she graduates and gets a new car (presumably a Tiguan if her tastes remain the same).
I am not a DIY'er but I have a shop that specializes in VW's that I have been going to that would undertake such a conversion. Most of my searching has turned up involved suggestions for the DIY'er or debates over other conversions.
Right now, I would like the basics outlined for me.
(1) What is necessary to do an ABA swap? Is there someone or some place that has the necessary parts?
(2) Are there particular Vanagon years one should avoid (besides air-cooled and diesels)? Are there particular Vanagon years that lend themselves as being better candidates? |

What do you expect? No spoons feeds here. "Use the SEARCH, Luke!" some more and read between the lines.
Seriously, read and interpret before asking. This topic is covered if you bother to digest what is there. Look in the FAQ. People do these swaps a lot. There is a shop, I forget, that specializes in your swap. Go out and find the information.
