I think some markets, maybe germany, 68's did have lowback seats stock.

Most Euro markets had lowbacks to the end of production. '68s and some '69s also retained wraparounds, as well as the '66/ '67 "Z" armrest in those markets.

Being a "standard", however, bullets and small armrests would likely be original.

IIRC Canadian market T3s got high backs and three point belts like US models beginning in '68.

I plan to first make it drivable so I can pass safety to put plates on it :
-Fixing the brakes that don't work
-Fix the helper side rear pop out window that don't hold anymore because off the rust
-Fix the horn

I want to keep it stock except for the ride height and the front seat.
In the future (when I'll have money)I will change all the window seal, fix the rust on the front fender, put some carpet inside and I would love to have early seat with no headrest. I know 68 are supposed to have headrest but when I wanted a notch I wanted a early one, so the headrest has to go.

I want to buy a bentley, do I need the early one (blue one) or the late one, I think I need the early one because that I have the 1500 with carb.
Thank you all for the good comments.

Get the Blue Bentley first, as it'll cover about 98% of your car. And for wiring diagrams, the tech section of this site will help you with that. Any other questions can be answered just by asking the forum (try to keep in in this thread though, as it'll make life easier for you).

There are a couple of threads on here for adjusting the ride height. All you have to do is search, and you'll get one. The videos by Cougair will probably help you the most though.

You can remove the headrest, and turn your highbacks into lowbacks pretty easily. Once you remove the seat material, you'll see how the seat back frame is set up, and it'll give you an idea of how to do it. I did my own in my 71 Canadian Notch, and I used a beetle shift rod to replace the headrest hoop, so the seat frame kept it's structure. If I were to do it over though, I'd use seat covers for a 64 T-3, rather than the 67 version, as the upper corners of the seat back need something to puff them up (square corners on the 67 style, vs rounded corners on the 64 style). After the covers are installed, then you cut a slit in the material to re-install the flip lever, and it'll look almost stock.

You might want to look at the trhead "been busy" in my signature, as there's a lot of good info in there that you could use. I hope this helps.

Thank you Bob & all the other for the answer, I received my blue Bentley in the mail yesterday. Now if only I could find time/space to work on my notch, my baby girl just turned 1 year old so I got busy with birthday's, and my friend still have his rabbit in my garage so I can barely access the notch.

I removed the back seat, and found some clear plastic behind it, I read in the Bentley that this plastic is supposed to go there to seal the trunk. The plastic in my car is full off holes and rust stain, so I'm going to trash it. I was thinking to put new clear plastic there and use some cement contact glue to really seal the trunk tight, would you do that?

I'm glad, there seems to be no holes there.

I started to wire wheel the rear shelf, but to do a nice job I would need to remove the rear window. So I'm going to remove as much rust as I can and I will brush some Tremclad (cheap anti rust paint). And later when I change all the seal I'll strip the paint again and por-15 the inside off the notch. I don't want to go crazy on the car right now, I just want to drive it.

I started to look for my brake problem and notice that I have no more brake fluid, and the rear driver side wheel is full off oil so think I might just have a bad wheel cylinder. It's funny because I have bill from the p.o. and he had the rear wheel cylinder changed last year. I just hope that I don't have to change the master cylinder. Now I have to wait for a sunny day(it's been raining forever here) so I can push the car outside and take a closer look at the brake.

I'd kick the Rabbit out to the curb with 24 hours notice!

Reuse the old or new plastic.

Hey Zack, I have a number of spare parts that I'm not going to be needing from my '70 Notch. If there is anything in particular you are after just say the word. Happy to help out another Canadian Notch!

 I could not do that, He is a good friend, we had a lot off fun working in my garage...but it was to small for 3 cars, he left today

This means I can now start working on the notch

I should off left the chunk off bondo there, at least until I past the safety, but the door gap was annoying me, there is a thick layer off bondo from the top off the wing all the way to the bottom. I'll leave it like that, and fix it after safety.

OhHerrooo, nice looking square, the gas burner really fit it well. If you have any picture off the interior can you send it to me, or put them in your gallery, I need some inspiration for the interior color.

Thank you shaunl, I sent you a pm.

I've been working on my notch lately, I changed the front calliper, the 4 rubber brake hose and the master cylinder.

I Also cleaned the inside, this car smell really bad inside, I found some mouse crap in the heater channel...also, I trow away all the stuffing that was in the rear seat, It was filled with moth, I still Have to open up the front seat Just to check, and also buy some moth balls.

I went for a ride around the block, drove like 20 min, then I opened the heater that goes to the feet, the bad smell was really intense, so decided to come back home. I decided to removed the upper tin on the engine...I have read in a other post some horror stories with mouse...

I took the plastic elbow under the rear seat out, and opened them, I trow away all the stuffing there to because it was really smelling bad, I kept the metal tubes tho.
I still have not found the dead body off the mousse, but I know it is still there because it still smell really bad in the car.

After some vacuuming

I also found out my intake manifold is broken

Yep, that's a TMI interior! Complete with the misaligned floor heater vent grommet. The pattern TMI uses is for the squareback and fastback. On notchbacks the heater vent is in a different location. When I ordered my interior through ISP West, I requested that the grommet be left off completely. Without the grommet, you can then cut the vent hole in the correct location:

You can just see the vent in front of the seat. Notches got the slider vent, like the Beetles did.

You wont find oil leaking out of a wheel cylinder, if this car is swing axel that will be gearbox oil, you will need a hub seal kit

Oil(brake fluid) can leak out the brake cylinder (inside the drum) if it's faulty couldn't it?

Thank you for the picture...I'm unsure between your color combo and brown (like fake teak). Either way it won't be before a while because I'm broke...and my wife is pregnant again so I have to save some $...priority's :P .

krusher wrote:

Thank you, I'll look into that, but the oil was not leaking in the drum, but on the back off it, like if the po bleaded the brake without a hose...I know one off the axle boot is leaking to, I'll change that to.

68notch wrote:

That is what I first tough, so I took the drum off, on both side, and the wheel cylinder is new on both side, and everything is dry on the inside.

notchzack wrote: I also found out my intake manifold is broke, now I need a other one.

After some more searching and more bentleying I think I'll leave my intake manifold like that, I won't drive in the winter so I don't think I need the preheat tube, and I don't have the throttle valve that goes with it so I'll simply cut the rusted piece, and paint every thing. Is that a good thing?

Put new seal on the pop out, only did one side so far...it is really tight. I need a new latch to instal the pop out on my car, the one I have is broken.

That might be his only drive in 2011...still have a lot to do...

I also tried to take off the bottom posh rod thin and they wont come off, do I really have to remove the heat exchanger just to remove those thin. There is still mouse garbage in there so I really need to take these thins off. Is there a special trick?

Yesterday I took the exhaust & the heat exchanger off and also the oil cooler ...Again, there was mouse crap in the heat exchanger. That mouse is really starting to piss me off.
Then I took the big rubber cylinder that feeds cold air to the engine....you guest it, mouse crap

I'm going to take the engine out, I think it will be ease-er to clean it out off the car, and while I'm there I'll change the push rod tube because the one that are there are rotted.

I was so glad to see your original assembled heater. I have a '69 notch from Canada that I relocated to Calif. and the body shop disassembled all to the heater unit. Could you please send me as many pics of the mounting, electrical, and assembly as you can. We just cannot seem to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rob
