Alabama Hills. This was our favourite spot - but now it's blocked off for restoration. The new permit system has really cut down on the number of sites available as well.

I think you posted that pic years ago and I replied that I would try to find my pic from the same spot from 1990.
Still haven't found that pic :? but it is a very cool place 8)

Columbia National Wildlife Refuge in the near distance, Central Washington Scablands.
This spot is just outside the (no camping) refuge.
Off-season, Mar22, 2024 there was almost nobody else around.
Those vertical rock columns that you see in the distance.....
The thick, rich topsoil that you DON'T see was scoured away by ice-age floods going 60mph, ~17,000 years ago.
The flood was was miles wide and hundreds of feet deep.
Those rock columns are about 20-30 feet high so imagine rushing water several hundred feet higher, leaving what they call "scabland".
The rich soil that departed filled the Willamette Valley in Oregon,
 300 miles away.
We camped here to attend the "Othello Sand Hill Crane Festival"
which sounds real old-farty..... doesn't it?
There were lots of bluehairs.....
But the wildlife and local geology lectures were great.... we'd go again! |

Indian Cove Campgrounds inside Joshua Tree National Park. We camped a couple nights and explored the park after Buses By the Bridge last month. Ended up doing just shy of 3500 miles in 11 days. A great time! |

This just in. Senator Mike Lee's proposal to sell off public lands pictured here, has been temporarily withdrawn from the Senate's Big Beautiful Bill. But we must all stay aware of what is going on with our public lands.
Now back to your regularly scheduled campsite viewing. :P

Great news..
This is Fall Lake near Ely, MN in.. .the spring.
Unfortunately there were wild fires raging just south of us, so the air quality sucked.

This was our first camping trip of the year in 2025 and in 2024. I'm surprised we've been able to nab it both times since the area does get a bit of use.
Somewhere west of Whitehall Montana.

Bryce Canyon NP, Utah - North Campground
No, the rocks on the left are not spray-painted landscape materials - they are real, lol
Valley of Fire SP, Nevada - Site #3
VOF exceed our expectations - just stunning! Campsites on this side get sun in the AM and shade in the later afternoon, which was just perfect for cooling down and sleeping.
