Sensational find, Patrick!

But I have to correct you: There were only two of them build! I just had a chat with Gisela Balbach, the doughter of Mr. Stauss, and she confirmed that. And she is totally amazed about the car! :D
Cheers,

Georg

PS: I love it! It's not as beautiful as the vert, but it's far from being ugly IMO!

Sensational find, Patrick! Can you tell us how it got from Wiesbaden to Oragon and how you found it?

Georg / DFL Tue Jun 07, 2011 5:35 am

Marcel, it's not sure that this car is the one from Wiesbaden. It could be the other car as well. So it's a 50:50 chance. 8)

Anyway, more pictures and more about the history would be really interesting.

But the other one was a split window...

And an old pic of one of the first D&S

Awesome!!!! That car looks badass just the way it sits.

Georg / DFL Tue Jun 07, 2011 7:08 am

Björn, but do you know WICH ONE was for the aforementioned tobacco dealer? Everybody seem to think this guy on the photo looks like a tobacco dealer, so it must be the man from Wiesbaden. :-)

pbaptist Tue Jun 07, 2011 11:24 am

First: I really wished I could keep it for myself, but I was not the only person that know about this car and the price went above what I could affort. So, in the end I bought it for someone else.

This car is from wiesbaden. The car still had the porsche rims. The original Porsche engine went hot and was replaced. The dash has also some Porsche features. So, I am positive that this is the car made for the tobacco dealer from Wiesbaden.

Andy Luzzi wrote in an old IVVM that there were Three D&S Hardtop Coupe's build.

The first: The black split window
The second: This two-tone
The third: The oregon barnfind

Here it is: Dannenhauer & Stauss Hardtop Coupe. There was only three build and for now this one is the only survivor.

'Coachbuilt hunter' Patrick did it again

Amazing find, a very rare car indeed, and judging from the photo's in very, very good condition. Would be nice to see this one on a show in Europe someday, or will it stay in the US...?

Regards,
Paul

Good research, Patrick! Still interesting that Gisela Balbach says that her dad always talked about two coupes! She mentioned that to me already back in 1996 when we first met. But there really seem to be three cars, especially because the radius of the rear side window of the two-tone car looks different compared with the other two cars.

Looking forward reading the whole story! :D

Georg

From that badge it appears this car went over to RUF for some special speed treatment. Was it fitted with twinn turbos?

I don´t know what "RUF" you mean.
This RUF on the badge just means "call" (phone, nr.)

Thats it. This thing could have been a high performance Porsche in it's day.
