What do you use it for?

Dishes, drinking water (I wouldn't), hand washing? Just curious. It just seems to be in the way. I have the late westy layout btw.

Washing, rinsing dishes, hands, etc. Not in the way. A much appreciated item when camping. No, we don't drink the reservoir water, although it's clean enough for washing up.

I would if the water would actually stay in the tank. But I've used it for dishes before.

OG Velvet Wed Jun 22, 2011 1:12 pm

Problem with using it for dishes is the water's cold.

Thought about filling (or halfway filling) the tank with rum and using it as my bar. I'm sure someones done this.

Heat water up with a kettle, simple.

I thought the same thing, except replace rum with vodka ;)

That's the innovative thinking I was looking for!

I know I know... but it still doesn't justify the sink.

X2. That's why they call it "camping". We've learned to wipe off plates, cooking pots, etc. with our napkins or paper towels when finished eating, then there is only a bit left on them to have to wash off. Easy Peasy.

Well then, get rid of that sucker! I'm guessing someone will gladly take it off your hands.

So when camping, how would you wash up?

I'm not challenging anyone who uses their sink. I'm curious if anyone has other uses besides dish/hand washing. I actually want to keep it, but I don't really use it.

You could get inventive with it and fill it with ice to cool your beers. ;)

We use the water for cooking and brushing teeth.
We don't wash dishes in there although occasionally will rinse something off.
We've also used it as an emergency urinal with flush via the water.

We don't drink out of it.

Its good for Candles too- reflective and keeps the wax safe. But keep the top up! heat rises.
A bunch of tea candles in there looks cool and provides twinkly light - Cover the drain with Aluminum foil.

That's why I got rid of one of mine .. the boys were using it as their personal urinal..

Having good drinking water camping is the most important thing to me. Back in '04 I hacked in a really good filter into my '89 Westy (that I no longer have). It worked really well and I plan on doing the same to my '72 resto when I get to that point. Nice being able to refill from a road side puddle, or any source really, and have drinking water.

I cleaned my tank. We use it for drinking water, cleaning teeth, water to boil a kettle. Normal stuff. Oh, washing up. All sorts.

504 Wed Jun 22, 2011 2:47 pm

I drink out of it, just cycled through a couple of tanks. That is the main draw as far as I'm concerned.

Tank?! How about using one of those "drinking water safe" hoses they sell in the RV department?

Here's the wife washing the dishes now...

We bleached our tank out the first time, drain it before we leave camp, and do use it when a tap isn't available.
