We're all talking really about spending more or less money to make one or another option work. So, why not get a group together and go with a custom reverse cut R/P for the 012. No flipping gearboxes, no custom plates or adapters (except axle shafts), just bolting together.
I'm thinking about that avenue ever since I saw the Subaru reverse cut R/P. I inquired with 4 custom shops, who make mostly off-road and custom R/Ps for North American vehicles like jeeps or pick ups. The lowest production run quantity I was quoted was 200 units. Ouch. But maybe someone knows other shops or manufacturers ?
If I'm thinking of dropping at least $1500 into a clapped out old Porsche tranny (plus adapter ?!) and then upwards from there, why not spend the same on a custom R/P for a tranny that fits physically and in respect to gearing, etc ?

No room in the transaxle housing for the ring gear once it's flipped to the other side of the pinion...

You have to flip the entire 012 in order to reverse the flow. It's been done quite a bit in the UK

Or reverse the flow being fed into the transmission. It's been done here in the states.

Slow and steady. I've got a solution for the oil pump on the ALH and late 1.8t engines.

Yes, reversed the rotation. I've had a few people contact me looking to use that reversed drivetrain in other rear engine vehicles too, Delorean and Corvair.

Yes for an '03 1.8t, it is the same oil pump used in the ALH TDi.

But what about the reversed rotation of the pump ? How is that achieved ?

If the crank turns the opposite direction, then the pump will not work unless reversed ? Yes ?

top secret, took me years to find the solution for this oil pump. Read up on the backward 1.8t thread and the project QuattroSyncro thread to see some of the tricks, there is a lot that I don't show too.[/code]
