Hi, Happy 4th of July Weekend,
Was wondering what you all think about the future of ethanol, and one of ethanols biggest proponent David Blume, author of "alcohol can be a gas"
Some stuff he says is:
-Using ethanol actually produces more food rather than less in the argument 'fuel or food'. He says this because most corn is fed to cows and they poop most of it out(the starch) and only use the fats and proteins. Therefore, the starches could be used to make ETOH and the fats and proteins could be used as food. Also, there are way more efficient crops than corn for alcohol production.
-Alcohol production lowers CO2 in atmosphere because the plants that are grown uptake CO2 and the burning of it put out less CO2.
-Automobiles can be converted to run on alcohol for about $300. Also that old cars used to run on ETOH and Gasoline, and there was a knob to switch between different fuels.
-Its renewable and could easily power all cars no problem if grown and produced right
-Brazil has already adopted Ethanol as its main fuel source. They get it from sugar cane. The American auto manufacturers produce cars for Brazil that use ETOH as their fuel source.
Overall, it all seems really interesting. I wonder how accurate it all is, he seems very convincing. Are any of you running E85. Is the future of ethanol production promising?

Sugar beets. Old Napo started making sugar from beets when Albion blocked imports. You have sugar, you have alcohol. Much cheaper than corn and that way the bleeding hearts will stop claiming we are starving our friends with sombreros.
We were using it in internal combustion engines in the late XIX century.
actually it would be easier to trade food for gas with the oil producing countries. They want eat, I want drive.
