Hi all,

It's been a few years but it looks like I'm close to hitting the road again with Dante. He's in the shop right now getting his body finished up but from the looks of it we should be ready to start travelling mid-August.

The first part of the trip will take me from Winnipeg to the Burning Man festival in Nevada. I have around 20 days to make the trip so I'll be taking my time and shooting a lot of video along the way and posting regular updates here for my VW brethren who need a little escape every now and then. Here's a map of the route I'm taking:

http://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?msid=216827336360609520570.0004a5a03ba90f83ce42a&msa=0

If any of you are along this route I'd love to pop in and say hello, shoot some video of your ride(s) and perhaps do a sit down interview for the site/DVD. I'd also be interested in more off the beaten path destinations to check out. I have no interest in organized camping and prefer boondocking or BLM lands. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. If you've got some spare time then let's do a weekender somewhere.

Cheers,

Scott

Hey Scott, if you get any farther south than Burning Man, you know where to find me. 8)

Hey Eric,

Of course I'll be looking you up as well. Part two of the trip is the California coast and then a circle through the southwest starting in Vegas so I'm sure we'll share a couple of pops. Definitely want to hook up though. Would love to see your charming wife and sweet kids again. How are the girls? They prolly don't remember but tell em I said hi. :)

I also might want one of those table thingys you've been knocking out.

Exciting news Scott, can't wait for some fresh material from you! Good to hear Dante's finally on the mend and will once again hit the road!

Thanks. Got some new video equipment as well. All HD toys as well as a kayak, GPS that can transmit short messages from anywhere etc etc. Geeking it out big time.

Here's a short vid I shot with my new GoPro Hero cam. Nothing exciting. Was just testing it out in my kayak.

If my Bus was named Dante and I was heading off to Burning Man I think I might just take along an extra fire extinguisher or three. You never know about the Inferno.

He's all good. He's a Hellrider. ;) When I had him in Death Valley he never ran better.

I live about an hour south of Reno along highways 395 and SR88 in Gardnerville. If you heading possibly to Lake Tahoe(California) after burningman let me know and we can hook up I'm about 30 min. away

I've added you to my buddy list and would love to hook up. I'm also curious about your nickname. After shooting the US I'm off to shoot Baja California. I've been down the peninsula before and spent about a week outside of Todos Santos camped on the beach. I'd like to try the old road and was wondering if it's passable for a VW. I think it carries on south from San Felipe and eventually reconnects with the main highway. I'm probably going to look for a place to park, edit, kayak and just hang out for a week and any suggestions would be well received. I don't need a campground, just peace and quiet and security.

Nice. Any recommendations, suggestions, places one shouldn't miss, spots to boondock it.

If you're coming through Yosemite look me up. I'm in Fresno and can direct you to some great camping in the Sequoia/Kings Canyon area, or lend you my driveway.

Love to hook up. Maybe if you're free we can head out. I'm travelling solo from Burning Man to the Cali coast. I'd like to see Big Sur again before heading to travel the canyon lands of the south west. Thanks for the offer on the driveway as well. Can I use your garden hose. I shower in the buff but I'll be quick so your neighbours won't notice me on the front lawn.

I'll add you to the buddy list and send out an email when I'm closer. :)

Cheers.

Great photos. I'm a few weeks away from releasing a VW travel site for people to use. It'll let you post photos, videos, stories and a few other things. It's still in the works but it'll be great for VW travellers. I've got that one and another one for VW rebuilds that will follow the same principle. Just a free place for folks with volks to host their stuff.

If you are coming through Billings MT, we have a group who would love to meet up.

I just checked that out on the map and it's a very short detour on my way through to Yellowstone. I could do that. I'll send you a message with more details once I have a better itinerary worked out but I'll try and swing by on the weekend. I would imagine Yellowstone is less crowded during the week.

mikewire Wed Jul 06, 2011 7:22 pm

Yes, got it an replied - hopefully we can make something work out. Yellowstone is busy every day during the summer, but the weekends are nuts! Weekdays are a little better, and always worth the trip :D
