Hi,
I've just bought a 1973 double cab and I'm now in process of collecting all the parts that I need to make it drivable and reliable.
When I'm releasing the clutch for start driving I've got some shakes. sometimes it's very bad shakings... I've looked down the car and notice that the clutch cable is exposed and I've wondered:
1. What parts are missing here, the plastic tube or the metal tube?
2. Is this the cause for the shakings?
3. Could bad engine mount cause the shakings?

Here is a picture of the exposed tube:

thanks

That tube arrangement could be the problem for the chatter, way to much angle on the cable, looks to be an automatic bus converted to standard. Have you checked for the factory tube, is there one?

How can I tell if this car was originaly automatic?
The metal clatch cable guide look like a factory one but without the end.

Your M-code (see the sticky at the top) would tell you.

Can't find any code for auto trans on website, do you know what is the number for auto trans.

Can someone post a photo of how this tube should look?

Thanks

Just spotted your problem, your tube is about 3" - 4" too short, broken off or? Bogen tube not attached, cable not contained for smooth flow to arm. Here is a picture of mine.

I'm wondering why VW decided to locate this tube so low...
