I have a 2007 Trike with a 1776 cc (1973/74) VW engine with a Turbo. It only has about 3,500 miles on it but has recently acting odd. For no apparent reason the engine has been just quitting. I've been advised that it is likely the "point replacement device" going bad. The cause of the device wearing out so quickly could be the "coil resistance". Rather than replacing the "point replacement device" (and a new coil), I'm thinking of just returning to the old point and condenser type distributor. Those were always so simple to work with. (With the Turbo, it has plenty of power and weighs only about 800 lbs) Anyone see any problem with this ? |

No... put points and condenser in and get back to driving it. |

8) Dang...my dream of a Turbo trike.
Have a 1776cc Turbo I built in a 66 bug.
What Turbo and Carb do you use? With that power under boost what happens to the front wheel? At what RPM does your boost come on? Mine starts at 2600 RPM.
Do you have an extended fork?
Actually a 1200cc 40Hp engine with a 83mm BB kit would be adequate power for a trike w/o major consequences....just my mechanics opinion.
I have so many questions.
Am a retired VW mechanic here in Baja and a while back saw a local trike with a 40HP engine and no air cleaner pass by but could not stop him for info about maybe selling. Never know what price will work.
