here's some photos from a 1950 kombi at the 21st volksfest in columbus, ohio, august 13, 2011.
i don't know much about buses except that i like 'em. information written on the plaque displayed with the bus mentioned it was a 1950 kombi, the oldest kombi in the world and it was delivered in factory primer.

If you clicked my link you would have seen loads of this bus as it was found, during resto and as is. If it has a plate on it stating its the oldest kombi in the world then do you not think it should be? |

| Looks like Joe Mond standing behind it in one picture and the "set up" with the trinkets etc looks like something he would do. I am guessing it is his. I was at the show the night before but had to leave on an emergency and missed seeing this bus. Looks very cool and wish I could have seen it in person. |

It is the oldest physically known.... The information ( vin number for 20-03182) has been pulled off of an old Swedish site many year ago, but has never been seen in person by anyone! I have pesonal emailed Tony (barndoor.dk) about the information and he stated that bus # 20-03182 is on the registry but he doesn't think it exists. I personalty think the registry needs to be cleaned up on the early bus section, starting with bus 20-01502! :? Just because it's on a website doesn't mean it's real.....

this my be one you are more familiar with: :D

I want to see it with my own eyes and touch it to prove it's real! :D |

| 20-003182 was known to exist only a few years back and the owner/restorer knows what he has just because he is not all over the VW scene and internet shouting mine is the oldest does not mean its not still there  |

Do you not believe in Gorillas or the Antarctic then. :P
(it's possible you've seen both I know)
Just to muddy the waters I know of an even older window bus that exists but is not even on the register. But of course you can't see it so you won't mind  |

Ditto.
I actually did a similar thing looking into the 51 deluxes and I now believe there are actually about 3/4 still in existence and not the 8 or so on the list.
Oh and...

If you have independent information about the existence of the bus, please share. I'm not bagging on you, I'd like to hear for the sake of getting the info. out there.
It could be as simple as:
A good friend of mine, who I trust, has seen the bus, but the current owner is very private and doesn't want the bus details posted.
If you have no direct info, let us know that as well.
Thanks,
j. |
