I'm putting together T2 1978 and I would like to have a window in center on the driver side which I could open. I prefer more sliding window than jalousie one. But when I was looking for that kind of sliding window I only found windows for vanagon..So my question is..Does a sliding window from vanagon fits in may car?? Thanks!!

Sorry, a Vanagon side window is too tall to fit your bus.

So please tell me..if the sliding window from the vanagon does not fit my 1978 T2..which window does?..except jalousie window?..Did T2 ever had a sliding window..does anybody sells it on the samba???Thanks...

yes, late baywindow buses had sliding windows as well. I believe, and I'm sure someone will correct me if im wrong, but you could get sliders on 78 and 79 buses. maybe 77?

None in the classifieds right now that I can see but they do come up now and then, 76-79 stationwagon's had them. There's a pair of South African rear sliders for dumb money if that's more your style and one middle frame only (no glass) for $80 :shock: . Keep watching the classifieds.

You will see them for sale in the SAMBA classifieds regularly but your main problem is going to be the shipping. Shipping the things will be prohibitive costly, they are heavy and fragile. Figure at least 20 pounds and then measure your window opening to approximate the size, then use the U.S. postal service website to calculate shipping cost:

Then you have to convince the seller that it is worth their while to pack everything safely (a lot of work) and make out the customs papers and stand in line at the post office. Good luck with that.

for some reference, i shipped 2 sliders up from the states for $75. i then shipped a single one from Mexico via DHL for $130.

I bet you would be looking at around $200 to $250 in shipping to get it to Slovenia.

Yes, I can see that this kind of window is hard to get. But even the price including post is cheaper than one from Hoffmann where I usually buy things for my Bug and T2. Hoffmann is quite close to Slovenia..it has a shop even in Austria which is about 150km from my hometown Ljubljana in Slovenia. Luckily I have a friend who goes to California evrey month so the transport of window would cost me nothing. Vanagon sliding windows will not fit a Baywindow bus. Look very much alike, but will not fit.

If your friend is in California, maybe you can convince him to visit the Pomona swap meet. Good chance to find a set there:

Otherwise, wait for a set to come up in SAMBA classifieds in Southern California and send your friend to pick them up.

Are the middle Windows swappable from driver to passenger for sliders and jalousies ? I've often wondered because I'd love to swap my jalousies to be able to get at the knob by reaching in the front doors, rather than being able to open/close without getting out of bed ( I'm guessing that's the reason theyre towards the back).

I think it would be weird to have a sliding window on the wrong side. It may leak a lot when you drive in rain.
As far as I know the jalousie window doesn't care which side it is on...

I'm just wondering if openings are same size for swapping jalousies. good point about sliders, hadn't even thought about that.

yes the 2 middle openings are the same size.. Flip the Jalousies if you wish, especially since they are very easy to pop in&out.

and there's less worry about driving rain infiltration with a backwards facing Slider than you'd think. Air whistle you may get if the 'whisker' seal is old and missing bits.
but for rain to drive by the sea bar is a 1/4" tall bump up from the glass to snake around and while there's water that gets on the side glass, it's not really a runnign river like say the windshield & door glass gets..

*I put a backwards opening rear slider in my vanagon for the dog.

they dont have swap meets around here. you have to drive like 4 hours away to be able to find one. :cry:
