Just wanted to show my header. I was going to buy it from SC but I heard they have a problem with cracking. When my old header cracked, I went to outfront to get some advice about the header and they referred me to Fantasy muffler. When I went to Fantasy they immediately welded my piece of crap header. I asked how much and the owner said don't worry about it. :shock: What... I asked how much it would cost to build a header and they gave me a quote. After saving some money I had to go back because they took care of me.

So I just got my new header. I bought the starter pieces from outfront motorssports and Fanatasy muffler shop did all the work. Fantasy Muffler did a great job making the header. Once it was finished I took it back to Outfront to get it ceramic coated. Here is the cost

1. Starter pieces from outfront (2) $150

2.. Complete custom job from Fantasy $232 I didn't have to take off anything like skid plate or anything else. They worked around it to make sure it fit. For ceramic coating ofcourse I had to take everything off. Fits like a glove.

3. Ceramic coating outfront. (5 working days) $100.

That's $150 plus $232 plus $100 equals $482.00 - still pretty reasonable in my books.

That is a lot less than I paid for my (awesome) Vanaru stainless header.

Let's see how well this header holds up.

It hurt to buy the Vanaru header.......

Yeah, and its only $100 more than the Small Car temporary header...

yeah i thought about buying the vanaru header but the cost was bit more and i still needed the muffler shop to make the j tube if i went with the vanaru route. Local is always better in case there are problems.

by the way, fantasy muffler also made the j pipe to cat no charge.

Yeah lets see how it holds up. I only had it for couple of months. So far so good. I'll give a feedback later.

I payed 400 for the header from Stan's headers. coating is 30.00 extra. In stock 14 gage steel.

Stan's exhaust hangs down lower and this is a issue for a van owner that wants to bump around off road. My smallcar header sits higher and it still has some nice dings from contact with terrain. That is one thing to note on that design.

this smacks of a sort of home-grown consumer's union for vanagon products. I guess we are all that. nice header-- reminds me of something doug thorley would make-- tri-y and all.
My corwagen had a sex-y header [5 whys] into a 2 inlet mustang muffler

I called Stan's header when he was making the header and his quote was way higher then $400 plus $30 for coating. Plus the shipping. And there is nothing like custom made. My header is tucked really nicely and does not hang low at all. I didn't really like the two piece either from Stan's. But I'm sure Stan's header is nice.

I'll try to take a picture one of these days when its on a rack.

Damned if you do and if you don't.

Too close and you can not service some things I have found.

Not that you have to do it often, but a little more room here or there can be helpful sometimes.

I am sure if Fantasy were to tool up they could blow them out for less even.

Niche market though and they would have to amortize the tooling somehow.

The above is the down fall of the SC header, though.

Blowing out too many with little quality control and all of a sudden you have a part that looks great but fails to hit a decent usability level.

A slippery slope as they say.

Have them coat both interior and exterior for the best durability and longivity possible.
