Hello. Need help finding a fix for the Fresh Air Pipe Right -Hard Black Plastic. This goes on my 79 Westy 2.0 FI. I think i can find the hard plastic part but what about the small platic tube that connects that to the heater box. Mine is melted and duct taped. See picture.
Here the part i can get.

What you have there is two pieces. The hard plastic piece is fine, except that it has duct tape on it. The oval part attaches to your heater box and is held on with a clamp. The accordion tube at the top is broken off, but it did at one time attach to your fresh air heater fan. You can just buy a paper foil tube to replace it. The original plastic ones are long gone. I still have mine, and the assembly looks like this when not broken:

If you can't find that short hard plastic part you can just use a long section of that paper hose for the whole piece. you have to shape the bottom that connects to the tin so it's oval and place 2 short cuts on either of the short lengths of oval to make it fit - but it fits great and once clamped in place it holds up fine.
once mine was shaped properly I can pop it off and back on as needed without having to fiddle with it at all. |

I found this on an 82 Vanagon. I am not sure on the length but this fits both ends. It will shape to fit the oval and is correct for the round for the other pipe.

nice. Bypass the platic piece all together. On a different note. Did you paint or powdercoat your fan housing. I like the color |

I blasted it and painted with dupli-colour high temp paint... I think it was called graphite?... It has been four years so far and it still looks good, just more dust on it :D |

Are the hoses clamped on or just friction fit? |

This is mine. The plastic piece at the bottom is still good, I just used paper hose to replace the plastic accordion tube. I've given up trying to find that part. The paper hose works and you just gotta mash it around the oval opening and use a hose clamp to keep it together. Works and doesn't look bad.

The two pieces are original and designed to fit together. They are friction fit, and very snug. |
