i just managed to get this last week during my short break at home.

67 meets my 66

first fill petrol

this ignition key is the original key since the car was new? i dint believe it too till i found that key opens everything - apart from the glovebox lock and dealer option glovebox lock

owner bought it from an expat in Malaysia in 1968 when the car was approximately 1 year old. she told me the car was Gray and the title also mentioned Gray...so i figured the colour is FOntana Gray L595

i first viewed the car at night time.

this is where the car has lived since original owner bought it in 1968 from an expat in Taiping.

i like this, but everytime i touch them, they tear!! :( and i cant buy any replacement. how sad.

this tyre should be from 1967

now who says VWs need to change their floorpans? :evil:

Cool car..You have a locking convertible trunk and glove box lock for some reason the previous owner must have been concerned about theft.

I like how the whole truck lifts to get the bug onto the flatbed! Why lift the bed when you can lift the whole truck?!?

You have quite a find there. I like it. Interesting how the flat bed haulers work there.
The mats you may be able to get and a slight cut to fit.

thanks. the locking convertible trunk is actually quite common here for 1967 and 1968 Bugs.

over here in this part of Asia, we get EUro models with American bumpers.

for this 67, it is actually one of the last models and the key is the same as the american 67 and later bugs.

earlier 67s here hae the single profile keys.

the locking glovebox is a mystery to me. this is the first car i have seen to be equipped with it.

the other thing missing is a trip speedo. i have seen a few local 67s equipped with trip speedos.

A very nice find with nice patina & history, congratulations! The former owner must have liked the Beetle as she kept it for so long. Is it hard to get spare parts where you lived as you told that you won't be able to get a new floor mat instead of the broken one?

thanks. the car was purchased by the owner's late husband from a Brit expat in a town called Taiping in Malaysia. those days Taiping was known as the Jesselton town. it is also the wettest town in the country, hence the discovery of this car is weird.

yes it is hard to get parts here, most have to be mail ordered. we can get basic stuff, even that supply has been hard at times.

the rubber mat in RHD form , i am not aware of anyone producing it currently. WW has, but it is in LHD format.

this locking hood lock i read is known as the vert hood lock in the US, but they are fitted to all 67 and 68 RHD Bugs in some parts of Asia. at that time all these cars to my understanding were still completely imported from germany.

this is rare in this country, could be common overseas. this is the first car i have seen fitted with this.

i dont have a key for it, but i have an NOS piece in my stash. i knew it would come in handy 1 day... :lol:

i am so so glad the wiring has not been tempered much at all. could see some mods, but not as bas as some and most importantly not painted over, something very common with painters or car owners those days in this country.

that's it. i will not paint this part of the car. LOL

now, this red thing , paint? is this from the factory? i know the speedo works good.

The Bulkhead mat is available in several colours from Newton Commercial in the UK, I bought a complete original material style RHD set for a reasonable price.

The Floor mat has long since been unavailable here new but good originals turn up occasionally

the red stuff on the back of speedo is tamper
proofing from the factory.You dont see that very much.
