72 Westy -- I have my hot wire coming to my dash pull switch and a brown wire coming off the other side-- were is the brown going to ?

rustbus Fri Feb 28, 2014 5:32 pm

ground?

Why would there be a ground coming off the other other side of a two prong plug ? What would the color wire be coming off the non hot side of the switch ?

Here is the info about the light and switch wiring. Red and red wires.

this is a wild guess while you wait for someone knowledgeable. free bump

I think the interior lights have an open ground, and making that ground is what turns them on. so this switch needs to work like the door switches

not a bad guess hey? sounds plausible. lets see what the real answer is #-o

Any chance you're looking at the rear window defog switch? It has a light inside, and has a ground wire...

I looked up in my Bentley and saw the two reds which are not there. The wiring diagram is for a pass bus. I know that brown is ground ,that is why the brown on the other side makes no sense. Pull the swich -blow the fuse.

Brown is a new one for me, sounds like the work of a PO sticking mystery wires wherever they looked like they might go. The rear dome light should be red and sometimes the wire to the light is blue/red or sometimes just red. It'll be dangling out of the LF windshield post with a black jacket on it.

I hate the PO.

Karl,
Samba wiring diagrams ^^^^^^

scroll down in the wiring diagrams to the last 1972 diagram
and notice to the right that there is a 'Dome light highlight diagram'
