| After many years and trying many different remedies to get rid of the dreaded "my doors/windows is/are hard to open/close because i just put new (insert manufacturer name here) rubber in" syndrome, i think i finally found something that actually works, and is even recommended by VW if i remember right--TALC powder, or baby powder. never thought it would work, but i've put it on 2 busses now, and it works great. i sprinkle it onto the rubber, work it in by hand, and then apply some more. no sticking. makes the rubber turn a bit white, but i'll take that quasi-NOS look over sticky doors/windows any day. i even put it on my 59 which i replaced the door top rubber over 2 years ago (and tried everything to get it to stop sticking), and it worked great the first time. plus, talc is cheap, and it doesn't take a whole lot to do doors/windows. i even put it in the channel for the door tops i just did seals on, and it made it pretty easy to slide the rubber through. i don't know how often i'll need to repeat applying it, but it doesn't take long, and smells so "baby fresh". just passing on a hopefully helpful tip. |

I will have to try that. I've tried every kind of liquid you can think of. Nothing worked for longer than two hours. Thanks for the tip.

| the original vw rubber was very soft, unlike the crap that's sold today. i wonder why nobody makes them like that anymore. |

OK, as far as post resurrections go this is a doozie but...
AWESOME ADVICE!
I too have been driving myself to frustration looking for ways to un-stick the cockpit doors.
I hope none of you have more updated info that this will dry out the rubbers or something. I'd hate to be back to square one.
In the mean time the old girl has easy to open doors and that fresh baby smell to boot.
Once again theSamba search delivers! |
