I am a new owner (will be as of Saturday 11/16/02) of a 1966 Split window Standard. I have heard it called a "Kombi". Where does this term come from? |

kombi was a specific model designed, among other things to avoid import taxes into the US on commercial vehicles. it qualified under US standards as a passenger vehicle. it had no middle seat generally nor rear interior panels or heater for the cargo area. hardboard panels up front. painted one color. campers were often based on kombis. first 2 numbers of the serial number is 23 off the top of my head. |
