I don't get this.
If you are insured and get hit can't you contact your company, get the claim from them and get your company to screw the other insurance company for the money?
Maybe it works differently in Oz?
Why have agreed values otherwise?
With my company I've insured for a set amount and that I can get the vehicle back.
I don't care what the conniving bastards from another company have in mind, that's what I pay for and expect to be honoured.

Based on how the OP took the other insurance company's offer. And Never responded to the 3x I asked if he had FULL Coverage on his own policy. I assume he didn't.

You are correct. Normally, no matter who's at fault, you can ALWAYS make a claim on YOUR own policy, and the company you have ins. with will subrogate the claim against the other person's insurance company.
Thats why it is important to maintain full coverage insurance (agreed upon value if possible).

Sorry I din't see your question. Most of this is my fault for having minimal coverage. I did think of claiming this but they said it would have killed my premium drastically. So go from around $120 a month to $4/500 per month. I'm not a millionaire. Full coverage was even out of my budget from the beginning and no company could tell me why. I'm a safe driver and have had one ticket in 18yrs. I'm not going to post what I settled for just cause it doesn't matter, my bit was vehicle replacement. Lesson learned, carry full coverage and maybe things would have turned out better.

just for info, all eric had was liability on his bus. IMO full coverage is not what it implies. You can have full coverage on your 2011 car and total it and the ins company wont pay off what you owe, thats why people carry Gap ins also.

Even agreed upon value on our VW's DOES NOT gaurentee you the Ins company is just going to cut you a check for that amount, they are still going to send out an adjuster and come up with a value of your vehicle and 9 times out of ten it isnt going to be what you AGREED upon when you started the policy.

Plenty of bad advice and good advice here. The key is to know the difference.

He knows what he is talking about.

You are correct.
However, having full coverage, enables you to have YOUR insurance company work on your behalf to get you the most money for your vehicle from the at fault party.

All full coverage policies pay actual cash value of the vehicle regardless of "what you owe" for those who finance vehicles.

With liability only you are protecting the other driver in case you hit him. The USAA driver hit you and I assume was found to be liable. When USAA sees that you didn't cover your own vehicle they assume your a Dweeb Rickety Piecemeal car owner. You deserve to be hit and all they want to do is be done with you.

Some people work on their own wheels and figure that the money they'd be spending on collision/comprehensive they're saving in case they have to fix their own things because they screwed up. Without coverage the insurance company will take advantage of you but you are entitled to be made whole. It's up to you to prove to them what they owe which is much harder than if you had coverage on your own. It can be done and you should not be penalized for owning a fairly hard vehicle to replace/repair easily.

I don't give shit why the pic doesn't work. Copy paste. It's been replaced after way too much money out of pocket.

Let me state this clearly for anyone reading this topic including the OP.

GET A LAWYER.

EVERY time you get in an accident.

Also go see someone who understands body mechanics right away, someone who can see if your neck and back are out of whack and report to the lawyer.
Then all YOU have to do is spend your time printing up info on the actual value of your vehicle.

They will run you over every chance they get, so play hardball cause thats all they know how to do.

Glad you have a new bus, and i suggest classic car insurance also. Regular insurance companies are bullshit by comparison when it comes to handling vintage vehicles.
