Anyone think I should give this a try? I'm trying to do a budget paint job on my 68 bus project and the price is right but I also don't want it to look like total crap since I'll have a lot of hours wrapped up in prep. This will be my first paintjob ever. |

There are no specs given as to what the nozzle size is and this is what determines the guns suitability to your task as stated by the paint manufacturer for the proper atomizing of the paint. The vapor line at Northern tool does give that information. They are more expensive though. |

might work,.might not,.you get whatcha pay for.
all mine are first rate guns*, all put out a first rate paint job.
a good gun can make a OK painter look good, but only a good painter can make a crappy gun look good, or frustrate the crap outta ya..

I definitely agree that you get what you pay for, but I just can't justify spending tons of cash when I'll probably only paint a car every couple years, if that. I'm also not too concerned about getting a show quality paint job. I don't know what I'm doing, but I'll learn and I don't want it to look like total crap either. I'd spend a couple hundred bucks if I knew what I was getting was going to do the job. |

With $200 to spend, get a Devilbiss Finishline 3. Check TCP Global or Eastwood. |

Don't buy anything that doesn't come with a selection of different nozzle sizes. |

What about the Devilbiss 2 or 3 gun kits? Still under $200 and I could have a gun dedicated to primers and topcoats. They seem to get good reviews. |

I have never used the Devilbiss Starting Line guns. I can vouch for the Finishline 3. I picked up a $40 Lowes Kobalt gun for primer. The Finishline does come with 1.3,1.5, and 1.8 tips. Keep in mind capacity of your compressor whatever you choose. These require 13cfm@23psi. Eastwoods Concours line is rated for 4cfm@29psi. |

I'll have to check and see what the specs are on the compressor I have available. I think it may only be a 25 gallon so something like the east wood may be better. |

the cheap harbor freight purple handled hvlp guns are a good cheap option. and you CAN buy different size tips for them. i actually work for Tractor Supply and told someone just yesterday to get the harbor freight gun. they are reg like $35-40 but go on sale all the time. i have NICE guns and probably use the cheapy HF ones 2-3 times as much...ken.... |

oh and i bought an Apollo Turbine hvlp system and LOVE it. had to use a standard hvlp and compressor last time i sprayed because i needed a vent hose on the turbine unit and i has blown away at how much more it took to do the same job. guess i had forgotten. the turbine system uses about 60% of the material and leaves VERY little overspray in the area you are working in.
i bought my system used on ebay. turbine, hose, gun, extra tips, extra filters for the unit, etc for around $350 shipped to my door...ken.... |

I bought that TS kit to spray epoxy primer and it worked just fine. I didn't spray paint with it so can't vouch for it with paint. |

Thanks for all the replies. I may have to go with the Eastwood gun. I don't think my compressor can handle much else and if I'm going to drop big money to get a good compressor, what's the point of going cheap on the gun. For now I just need something that can do a good job for a decent price using the equipment I have.
Thanks again. The replies have allowed me to look in other directions. |

I was thinking about the Eastwood gun for when I actually get to paint next spring. Let us know how you like it. |
