Hi all,
I recently picked up a '53/'54 Transporter manual.
No, it's not for sale. ;)
The back cover has been torn off, but it is otherwise complete, if a little tatty.
In terms of real value vs. insurance value, what am I looking at for this, please?
Also, can any of you perhaps give me some more info' on this, please? Who was it targeted at? Would only dealer's have had these? Anything, really.
Many thanks,
Nic |

i think the real value is in the abilty to put it to use as a repair manual or for reference material. because it's in english makes it less common and more useable to the english speakers out there.
i have a nice one that is complete and in good condition that i paid $250 for a couple years ago. |

I had one in this ad
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1155678
If I remember right, I sold it for $250 US.
It was complete and in very good shape.
Without a back cover, I would reduce at least by $25, probably $50+.
They were dealer workshop only as far as I know.
They were for the service people at the dealership. |

I have seen a couple different versions of these manuals, early and late but marked the same 53/54. Check yours out and see if it has images of post barndoors in it. The later one has post barndoor references and images, like a post barndoor dash. Check it out and let us know.
I paid $150 for mine a few years back. It has a NY library tag in it so I am pretty sure I know its origin. |

Thanks chaps.
It's still on its way to me, so I can't scope out any more than the photos I posted here, yet.
I'm really stoked to have it, even more so because it's a rather unusual item in my part of the world, because VW never built or sold barneys here. Our buses came later. |
