I didn't see many Type 2s in this thread:

As found in 1998, bought in 2007....

Sea Blue '66 Sedan.

I bought it at 63,000 miles and have put another 40K on it. One of the best VWs I've owned.

Accessories include OG package tray, mudflaps, ventshades, popouts and day/night rearview mirror, along with a vintage Addco rear stabilizer bar.

Believe it or not this is my 3rd 1966 Sea Sand Sunroof Beetle

My first bug was a 66, learned a lot from that car. IMHO a 66 is the best year it is the last year the interiors resembled the early bugs and the last year for the iconic head lamps. When I was searching for my last bug I bought I wanted a 64-66 bug, got excited and pulled the trigger on a 67 :? well I could always sell it and get a 66 again.

Thank you. That actually is a color photo. The car is painted Lamborghini Grigio Telesto. Photographs like clear-coated primer, battleship gray, but in person the paint turns different shades depending on light with red, green and gold flakes in it.

Here are more pics:

The car was originally sea sand also

New to me Euro 66 Bug. Spent most of it's life in Finland, now in UK.

Original Interior, Body has had a repaint at some point. Still in amazing original condition.

Currently just tidying up a few things underneath and a few mechanical issues to sort. Should be a nice summer bug. Currenlty tucked away as we've got salt on the roads here in the UK now.

I really like the 66 1300's (we had 66 1200's in Europe too). The motor is really nice matched to the gearing and it drives really well.

As found…

I can't believe that I've been hanging around theSamba for 19 years and have owned an early '66 for nearly 20 years-------and just now I found this great thread. :D

Iowegian, yeah too bad no one really uses the samba for socialization much anymore. I used to love reading all the post here. I started this thread but not much activity these days. Nice car!!

To the above comment, I do love the discourse here over the general meanness found on FB groups.

Cheers,
Joe

Same here. Though I sold my 66 last summer, I still can't believe I never saw this thread.
Here's my (former) 66 Sea Sand Sunroof car, off the road since 83-ish, pulled from a barn a few years back and brought to life. A good friend owns it now.

Being towed from MN to ID, Deer Lodge, MT.

In the driveway, engineless...
