I found a rear end that is supposed to be from a 1949 Bus. The reduction boxes are cast aluminum, unlike the cast iron ones we are all used to seeing. Could this be true, does anyone know anything about the 1949 buses, there couldn' t have been too many made....
thx stacey

Well, consider the fact that there were something like 8-10 1949s that were made and none are known to still exist. That would lead me to believe that what you have stumbled across is something else or you have found the rarest of the rare part that is actually basically worthless as there isn't a Bus left to use it in! Sad but probably true.

Just found out it isn't aluminum (just spray painted aluminum) it's cast metal like the rest. The cast number is 8234329. and the fellow had it in a dune buggy, he said it could only get about 40-45mph with the reductions... I think it is just plain barndoor reductions. The spring plate attaches to the split shaft, a few inches away from the reduction box... any one able to look up the cast number..?
