Wanted to make it easier for those that want to hook up city water with the Shurflo Faucet, to find
this information. So, I've put it into its own thread.
Installing the new faucet is pretty easy and straight forward, from using the direction that come
with it. I also bought and used Go Westys' Shurflo Adapt kit on the installation.
First thing is to remove the old faucet, three screws hold it to the top of the sink and there may be
a retaining nut on the underside of the faucet holding it to the bottom of the sink. On mine there
was not retaining nut, removed by the PO. (I'd like to interject that we as a group stop calling these
people PO and instead call them "EO" short for Evil One!) My EO also cut into the wiring for the faucet
switch to power a strange 12v plug, for an inverter for some long ago place. So I had to elminate
these wires and fix what was there. The existing plug for the wires had to be cut out as well. I added
new quick connect enclosed spades to the wires. If you can unplug the wires from the existing
plug you'll be ahead of the game, if not you have to add connectors. If you do not have a inline
switch before your faucet, make sure to disconnect the battery neg terminal.
Once all the wires, screws and retaining nut is removed you'll be able to lift the old faucet up to
expose the hoses fitting and clamp. Remove the clamp and that hose, I used a hair dryer to heat
up where the hose went into the faucet. It just pulled off with ease then. The city water fitting
uses a 19mm wrench. This fitting itself is a 3/8" flare fitting, you need to remember this if extra parts
are needed.
If your old faucet is still usable I guess it goes into the parts box at this point.
Installing the new faucet is pretty much the reverse of taking out the old one, with a few acceptions.
The new one will require a mounting plate, Madspainard came up with a inqenious fix, using an
antenna base. Others have used door knob stops and cut a hole in them for the faucet to mount in.
I used the GW kit, pretty basic stuff. A couple of spade connectors and SS mounting plate with
three SS screws. All the holes line up with the original holes, so no drill required. The old faucet
had a gasket under it, on the top of the sink. I kept it in place and covered it with the SS
mounting plate. You can add a dab of silicon to the bottom of the plate for extra sealing.
In this pic you can see the gasket in place.
The above pic shows the hose connected to the faucet and the Check Tee that I used to connect the
city water to. The hose from the Check Tee to the faucet is only a few inches long, you'll have a
hard time closing the drawer if the Tee isn't out of the way. On the other side of the Tee is the
hose from the water tank and in the middle is the city water inlet.
Directions for the Check Tee are easy, though the one I purchased required an additional
part. Here is a link to the exact product I bought locally.
http://www.adventurerv.net/attwood-check-tee-barbed-inletnpsm-outlet-p-1771.html
To make the Check Tee work, I also had to purchase an 3/8' flare to 1/2" FIB fitting. The fitting
is connected to the city water hose and then to the Check Tee. Make sure that you screw in the
CT to the fitting first before either of the faucet and water tank hoses are connected. You'll need
to be able to turn the CT around and around. Also make sure to use some teflon tape on the
threads, so not to have a leak. The CT has arrows to show the flows direction, so it pretty flawless.
Connecting power to the faucet is also easy, it does not matter what wire you use with either
the "-" or "+" wires in place. I did add an inline fuse holder, with a 3amp fuse as per the directions
from shurflo. Once the wires are hooked up you should be ready to use your new faucet with
either the city water connection or from the tank. As always check for leaks at the connections
and don't forget to reattach that neg terminal on the battery.
Mootpoints cutting board mod works with the new faucet.
The stove lid closes no problem with the new faucet, you can see how compact the faucet is
when it's able to move 360 degrees in all directions.
The original faucet switch also had two positions as well as two inlets and the shurflo does not.
You will have to add an additional switch to your installation, to make sure that there is no
power going to the faucet while you are using the city water hook up. Because the Shurflo
only has the one position on it, if power is on it will engaging the water tank pump. This could
mean that the water is coming from the tank, or even worse yet an empty water tank and
the pump gets turned on. A simple toggle or floor switch installed betwwen the faucets
wiring to make sure that current is not flowing and you should be all set to use city water. |

Just wanted to compliment you on the excellent post and say thanx for an elegant solution to those of us who have upgraded to a Shurflo faucet and in the past had to give up on the city-water solution.
Your post is a "10" |

yeah, what he said, great post
when I bought the Shurflo, the instructions mentioned the possibility of using a T connection to hook up city water, I never pursued the idea because I just don't want city water at all and the potential for leaks inside the van over time. Tim, do you have a pressure regulator inline in your install? that would help redude the risk of leaks due to high pressure system.
I've been thinking about modifying my system by adding a T connection with valves and hook up a hose with a shower head and switch, great for hosing down your feet at the beach. If I could only have time to do all the mods and upgrades in my list. |

No I do not. My city water never worked as my faucet switch was cooked on this setting.
I did buy one of the pressure regulators that attaches to the out side of the Westy, as
well as a water filter all connected to a garden/drinking water hose. There have been
some full service campgrounds that I have gone too, where I thought that their water
kind of tasted funky. Maybe too many chemicals for such a big water system. Well
the ones that I do like I can now enjoy city water in my Westy. |

You still rock, great post. But HAVE you tried it with the city water, yet? In theory, you should be golden...
Best! |

your post rocks, I am about to put one of these faucets in Jane. i wanted to know can you adjust the water flow? when you use it does it run full out or can you turn it down like at home. my old faucet just sprays at full force and when the switch broke I did not want another delta faucet. |

Well, hmmm. Now you've got me actually considering reconnecting the city water! :-k

The Shurflo works just like your house faucet: glorious adjustable water flow. |

People helping people, everyone wants to be part of the miracle.
From GW "When you activate the faucet with the city water attached it
DOES NOT allow the use of in-tank water, you will hear the pump running, but it is okay,
it does not damage the pump at all, and we even contacted the pump manufacturer to be sure."
This I did not try with mine, as I did not want my pump to burn out. I think that they need to make
clear if their test pump was in a tank filled with water, or empty. I would think that if a tank
was empty and the pump was engauged, it would have a negitive affect.
Glad they are offering a kit for those folks wanting to keep the City Water hook up. |

I just installed the Go Westy Shurflo Kit. i also installed a switch on the side of the sink cabinet to turn off the pump when docked. works great with no worry's of pump burn out. I also put a 3 amp fuse in line to protect the set up. :D |

Thanks, but no thanks. Even when that stuff was working perfectly, it left a lot to be desired.
I am all about upgrading these rigs with new, more functional technology. I will leave the Delta 6 stuff to the guys who "must have it stock" and put the stuff that actually works well on my van. |

Thanks for the write-up.... man do I ever need to upgrade to a S/F.
I also love the subtle lighting you have over your sink (inside of counter lid?). Can you post some details on that little mod? |

I'd love to go ShurFlo and keep CityWater options, and control pump with switch - just like you have! |

Really all you do is put another switch between the existing wires inline with the wires from the faucet.
Just pick one side or the other, it really doeasn't matter which. |

My water tank hose crimped at the base of the Check Tee and restricted the flow of water to the faucet.
I was thinking about adding a rigid pipe between them but couldn't find what I was looking for.
Instead I bought two rubber backed 1/2" clamps and secured the hose to the wall where it comes out.
Flow is back to normal. |

Hi TimWhy
that's the way I did mine, i use a inline fuse holder from a radio kit i had in spare parts. cut into one wire with the switch and mounted the switch above the fuse box, and thanks for the great pictures of you van, I have used several of your ideas in Jane. as soon as i get me a camera, i will post what I've done with her. i like your cooking videos, I just got me a grill this week |

Great info, Tim. I love the step by step installation instructions for the Shur Flo. We just put one in our 1987 Westy and love it! I noticed that lovely cutting board you have that fits over the sink. Did in come in the appropriate size or did you have to cut it down? What is the size? Where did you get the cutting board (can you tell I want one)?
