I will use this rusted beam to test drive it and play with it.

Good eye though.

Gotcha. I wondered if it was just temporary, but with the paint on it and the modified steering box and tie-rods mounted I wasnt sure

Hhhaha And I though you were just adding more character to it...

Everything is easily interchangeable. I figured I'd paint that beam too. Use it for future rollers and what not.

Looks Great!!

I want to see this thing when it's finished

Bringing sexy back in the form of rattle can paint jobs. I got another coat yet to go, and some wet sanding. I'll have it looking decent.

Remember it's a rat, not a trailer queen. I don't want it perfect.

If I may suggest, dont have the knuckles going in the same direction, you should "phase" them. :D

vdubbles24 Mon Jul 02, 2012 7:37 pm

What's the benifet if I did "phase" them? I'm curious.

You changed your user name I see....

Phasing U joints equals out irregular rotations and creates smoothness.
Judging by your pic you have the shaft yokes close, but slightly out of phase. Changing it now, really wont make too much difference, but if you were spinning a driveshaft loaded, and fast, it would create a vibration, and wobble.

Phasing also includes being sure your input and output joint angles are the same angle. That way they cancel each other out.

Example of proper yoke phasing.

Looks great!
Phasing the Joints means getting them both lined up
the same. Yours are close but not right on.
You could potentially get some vibration in the steering wheel
but I think its so close that you probably wont.
Are you planning on bracing the tunnel?
Your going to need something from the Frame Head at the beam
back to the firewall (for lack of better term :-))
That tunnel just wont hold up over time with the added stress
you are subjecting it to by pushing it out farther.

Again - Great build!
Really like it!

vdubbles24 Tue Jul 03, 2012 11:15 am

Thanks.

Yeah I plan on bracing the frame head for sure. 3/4 square tubing. Might be a little heavy but rather be safe than sorry.
