I own a 67 splitbus with an right sliding cargo door (rare?)witch needs a lot of rust repairs, so i was wondering if the sliding door of an type 2a would fit?, and by the way can someone tell me the differences between an type2a and a type2b sliding door? thanks. The sliders were an option starting in '64.
The slider pieces from a '68 will work, but after that they changed. If you're in need of rust repair you could use a later door for the sheet metal as well.

Greg, what do you mean by an '68, is that a splitbus ore a type 2a, because a late '67 splitbus is also modelyear '68. aircooled greetings from holland.

Not sure what a type 2a is, but by '68 I mean non split winsheild.

A type 2a and a type 2b is what we call in holland a panoramabus, because of the panoramic view you have, sitting in it, looking through the windshield, like a 1303 beetle, a type 2a is a early "panoramabus" and a 2b a late,(they have other bumpers and shit like that)a splitbus is a type 1. I am from Southern California. Los Angeles to be exact. I also own a split sliding bus. A 1967, just like yours. Mine also has a locking device on the steering column.

No, You cannot use a sliding door from a 1968-post bus! the dimentsions are different.
Even the rubber around it is different.

Yes, it is a rare bus. I do not know how my bus got to sunny Southern-Cal, but it is sitting in my garage ready to be painted.

It also has a kilometer speedometer. We use miles not kilometers here in the U.S.

Whenever I finish I will place a photo on this website. How does your bus look. Do you have any pictures?

I wasn't saying you could use the '68 door. What I was saying is that the mechanism / latches are interchangeable. From what I can tell 68 and earlier are the same. In 69 they changed.

If you have a locking column, kilo speedo, etc. It sounds like you have a Euro spec Bus. Check you m-codes for details. The slider isn't a Euro thing though. I currently own 2 Panel sliders, and have owned 1 other Panel, a 21 window, and a 13 window, all with sliders. The majority of these were US spec Buses sent to US ports.

Don't have any pictures, there is still a bit of work to be done, hope to get it on the road by march, it needs to get imported from germany, i think i'm going to do the rust repairs on the door, and not to look for an other one. The type plate right on the air inlet above the windshield says; type 21, fahrgestellnr; 217143708, the type plate behind passengers seat says; 27G (color?) 385065161 21165211047143708 I called with volkswagen germany to give me some information bout my splitty, they said to me that the bus was delivered on 29.06.1967 to the Oberpostdirektion Hannover, then it went to the kd-werkstatt werk hannover where it got a special postausstattung (interiour in the cargo section)after a hard life at the post it went to the fa. AEG-Telefunken there it got a paintjob (first it was yellow, now it's red) they made a fire bulli out of it, the removed logo on the doors say; aeg-telefunken werksfeuerwehr werk EIWEILER (it's a town in germany)can you give me some info about the m-codes? thanks, greetings from a still rainy holland!
