Does anyone have any information on the Brubaker Box? Does anyone offer this kit now? Or is it a lost cause? Any information would be appreciated. |

Working from memory here, the Box was never available as a kit, but was only offered as a fully finished vehicle. The box has been out of production since the mid 70s. Neat design, and one of the VW based oddballs on my list of "cars to acquire when i am fabulously wealthy." there are a couple of Box owners sites on the web- do a Google search, and you should find some info |

I'm pretty sure he's let the site go to hell(www.brubakerbox.com), but my buddy Rick in CT has a 'Box,' and owns the molds(minus the flat top section). His buddy Richard in OH has the red & gold one that shows up for Import Carlisle every year, and has been after him to sell the whole works to him.
I've ridden in plenty of kit cars & VWs, but the Box has got to be the most....unique. |

So how many Boxes were manufactured? It sounds like they made a handful and then went belly up!! |

Plasticman told me about this thread. I can answer your questions. I have the only Brubaker that remains in it's original gel coat. There are five that remain of the 53 that were made. Three original Curtis Brubaker cars were made then the rights were sold to Automecca who produced 50 kits.
So, what else do you want to know?

Well, I was curious of availibility, rarity and cost to own. Keyword being was. You just answered all of my questions. Slim-to-none, Very and Better play the powerball!!
I stumbled across an article on the brubaker box and it perked my interest. It was a kit that I have not seen before. And it sounds like I never will. Thanks again for all the info.
You wouldn't be interested in a trade would ya?? I have 2 cats and a '94 cougar I could trade!! If the wife gives up the cats.
Why do I sense laughter!! |

sorry to revive an old thread here, but i was just looking up the Brubaker Box... on my OOOOLD vw website i had a car of the month kinda thing, and rick, the guy with the grey box sent me pictures of his B.B.
Since then, i saw 2 of them at Carlisle one year... pretty sure it was the grey one and the red one...
I heard that the folks from Bugs&Busses had the molds, but when i emailed them a couple years ago, they said it wasn't true. |

You are correct about the two together @ Carlisle(about 3 years ago, I was there too); Rick's is the gray one, and Richard's is the red & gold one. Rick has the molds in his possession in CT. |

After seeing this thing in Hotvw's, I am totally infatuated with it!
I sure wish someone would start producing this body again, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. |

Yeah. With mid travel suspension and a turbo motor, that thing would be a blast for dune camping! |

Man....
I have always thought these were the coolest Kits.... And I even remember the convertible on they used on Ark II on saturday morning cartoons years ago...
It really is a shame there is no one out there willing to produce or at least clone this....
I'd LOVE to have one..... course for me... it would need to be low visibility military black :)
