Yes, the cylinders are a different length.
I don't have anything here to reference but I believe the difference is 1mm.

I've been researching this as I have uncovered some of the generic "ilco brand" blanks that are correct for the early barndoors. They (1950-2/28/54) use a shorter key as oposed to the later type 2's because there is only 4 tumblers vs 5. The later lock cylinders varied by diameter as well. A 13mm cylinder was correct for type 2's produced between 1/3/54 and 12/31/54. A 12mm diameter cylinder was then used for type 2's produced between 1/1/55 and 12/31/63.
This information matches Everett's and is taken form my NOS VW-Schlusseldienst Katalog.

I'll be posting a classified for the blanks shortly. Hope this helps, Gary.

As far as I know - No.
I have it but I consider it "secret info" so I didn't want to post it.
I wouldn't want someone to be able to cut a key for another member's car because they found out the key code.
I already know the key code and have keys to my friend's 23-Window because it's the same as one of my Buses. ;)

On my cargo door lock but non of the VW key guys in the UK seem to have any record of it.

Really wanted to get a key cut from code to save the issue of taking it apart

I recently found these keys after my grandfathers 52 bus, I have yet to find the ignition key with the P code. But what I don't understand is that why do I have two different codes on these BUM keys? (the one that's flipped is also E223) I thought that doors and lids where the same key. Bear in mind that there has only been one barndoor in this family so far, so they are from the same bus.

These three keys where also hooked with two DOM keys, made in Germay, with a 5 digit number stamped. Do they have anything to do with each other?

Hi.

I have a Locked BD Engine lid Handle without a key.
Is there a way to find out what Key i need?
I don´t see a code on it, maybe because the Ring is over the Partnumber.

There is no key code on original Barndoor decklid handles based on the ones I have seen in the past.

Same with the driver's door handle.

The only key code is on the cargo door mechanism.

You must pick it, then you can disassemble it and look at the wafers.

Nice handle, the chrome is excellent.

Dealer replacement handles have the key code on the exposes shaft, right near the threaded portion of the handle.

So i drilled out the outer part of the bolt and replace it with a later one.

Now i can see the part number, the vw and vulcano? Logo and a key number?

Can i Order anywhere here in europe a new key with this number?

Thanks for posting those new photos.
I was not aware some of them had a part # up the shaft like that but now that I look at another used one I have, it has markings in the same area.

I think beetlekey in Germany is one source for keys but I don't see any key blank ads from him right now:
