Hi. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Anyways, I've got an 82 with a subaru 2.5 conversion, stock DK transmission. My clutch has been getting gradually louder over the last year, and the transmission has always been difficult to shift between 2nd and 3rd gear but never gets stuck in gear.
The other day I was driving home and while cruising in 4th gear, the van would feel as though it was stalling, almost like the back end was hopping. When I got it home I noticed that either the clutch or transmission is making grinding sounds while idling. Any ideas? |

Drop some of the trans fluid. It sounds like you may have a failed mainshaft bearing. (Common failure mode on the DK trans). The mainshaft bearing fails and the 3/4 gear goes to crap.
It is also possible that your clutch has completely failed. If so there is likely to be debris in the bell housing. |

Thanks for the reply.
Good time to pull the trigger on a new tranny and clutch kit. I knew it was only a matter of time! |

Could "with Subaru 2.5" please be added to the title of this thread.
That engine has helped lay down some transmissions for sure.
Hope it is your clutch  |
