Wow, somehow I missed this response to this thread. Great pics baumer99!

Could you possibly post a pic of the awning rolled up and secured with the top still popped? I'd like to see the method of securing it in place.

This ad for a 70 Riv shows this awning track, but not the awning. Can anyone bring the photos to the samba gallery for posterity? I'm not sure how to do that.

Thanks. I wish I had the means to go get that one. Oh well.

Unfortunately - my rivi (73) had a rotten westy interior when I bought it - sorry I can't help.
Love this thread - very informational...

In that brochure is a pic of the awning. I have never seen one before, but now I want one. It says that it is concealed by the pop top when not in use. That would be perfect. I need to figure out how to make one now. I found one today. I was at a friends house and saw the neighbor and asked him if the Corvair behind him was his. He said "what Corvair"? So I said the car right behind you. And he said "it isn't a Corvair it is a VW." :? So I walk over and the car I thought was a Corvair turns out to be a 64 type 34 Ghia! So after talking to the guy for a while I asked him if he had any other vw stuff and it turns out he had a Riviera bus that burned up in a fire. He found the awning poles and showed me that they are supposed to be pinned into the wheels of the bus like in the brochure pic. The poles set is in great shape and I hope to use it after making a canopy for it. 8)

I would love to see an up close pic of how the canopy fits and how it is attached to the bus roof. Could you mock up your poles to show us how they fit into the wheels?

Ok I braved the freezing weather and took these pics today.

^^^ Interesting. I guess early bay drivers need not apply. I don't see those poles fitting wide five 14" wheels.

I'm not sure it is the rule to stick them into a wheel like that, but dude I got it from said it does. He most likely is following the pic in the brochure, but I bet sticking it into the ground is an option. :D
